First 300 point game ( with a raider )

Hey all , pretty new to x wing still but got quite a few ships purchased to try them a out . Now this weekend we're going for a 300 point + game

My list in theory as my raider and 2nd decimator are not even opened up yet is .

Raider - sorry for none specific upgrade descriptions that's what I'm hoping to get help with . Damage spec

2 x tank built decimators for distraction while raider shoots stuff.

Echo and vader flankers , with a shuttle and palpatine sitting at the back helping out.

Any ideas for individual ship builds and recommendations would be great . I have builds in mind .

This is my first post to these forums so sorry if i was a bit vague . I'm after guidance as I'm new to it all .

I myself never used a Decimator In an epic game, but in a game with so many ships on the board ships that have 0 agility and not cheap can die fast.

I've seen bwings die before getting to shoot.

Echo imo loses her appeal just due to the amount of ships on the board. I find she is easier to catch with more ships

Not to mention if she gets close to your opponents huge ship.

I guess it depends on what your up Against.

I know if I'm flying against my buddy I expect a lot of bwings, which could wreak havoc on your ships and he'll have a lot more than you.

I like to have ties myself as blockers and fodder.

Also having large ships with the huge ship can become tricky to maneuver if your not use to it and if you have a lot.

I try to avoid to many expensive ships like the decimator. Just because I can fit in mote ties which can be hard to kill,excellent blockers and not bad Jousters. Lose one, oh well I still have more lol

As for the Raider decide on what you want it to do and go with that in mind

For example one of my builds I have engineer team and single turbo lasers on the front and two quads, Mara jade and ionization reactor on the back oh and sensor team

With this I can support my 4 bombers that are going to my opponents huge ship from a distance, or I can support my ties and hlc shuttle that is going for his escorts.

If my opponent breaks through my anti squadron and gets in range 1 of my raider I have Mara jade and ionization reactor to hopefully slow him down enough so I can regend shields and hit with both my quads on the back.

Have a game plan and try to visualize how you want to set up.

Set up is highly important

I've had games where I set up only later realize that my ties have to cut across in front of my raider to get in the action but risk getting run into.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing lol

Have to agree with the above, as much as I'd like to be able to run a Raider and multiple Decimators just because it feels like a real naval fleet. But anyway, with a handful of exceptions, named pilots and expensive ships are not the way to go in Epic. In Standard you can get away with having fewer HP and rolling fewer red dice if you have lots of modification or mobility. In Epic, all your cool synergies and other tricks can get pretty quickly overwhelmed by shear volume of incoming fire. Remember, a decked-out Decimator MIGHT kill a single ship every single turn but that's the best you can ever hope for and 'overkill' counts for nothing. It's also easy to load up your Raider with tons of stuff that you'll never have enough energy to use or that's very situational. Think about stuff you can reliably use every single turn.

I should mention I won't be playing against an epic ship . My friends ship list is..

Iv got:

2 A Wings

2 B Wings

3 X Wings

2 Y Wings

3 Z95's

And a Falcon

Sounds like your deci would be toast :) I would go for a couple of Tie squadrons. My next fleet will have a Raider, a gunboat lambda, three tie advanced (Vader + 2 tempest) and four regular eye balls (Howlrunner mini swarm). And you need to come full force with the raider to smash those pesky rebels (which it is very good at).

That's a lot of ships compared to your 5-6

You'll want to be killing a ship or two a turn, or hope he makes some critical mistakes.

One thing o didn't enjoy so much before was play epic with one side Fielding a huge ship and another without.

Just too many guns, and the 125 plus Pts of a huge ship doesn't seem to make up for it.

I don't think I'd bring 2 decimator.

Instead I would have at least 4 ties in there to take some hits and try to block /break his formation

He's not taking all those ships , they are what he has available . But would be most of them .

Ok we upped it to 350 and this is my sample list .
