Why doesn't "X-Wing" have Star Wars in the name but Armada and IA do?

By mazz0, in X-Wing

This slightly irritates me, mostly when I'm selecting a forum from the Star Wars section. Either prefix all three with Star Wars or none of them! Anyone else have minor OCD about this?

I'm pretty sure its full title is The Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game - and the SKU prefix is SWX

The official name is as mentioned above Star Wars X-wing Miniatures Game

However that is a lot to type out and face it we cant get any cool acronyms with SWXMG (yeah how would you say that in one syllable  )

But yes X-wing does have the name Star Wars in it, just like Armada.

Ask a Welshman.

Imperial Assault could mean Warhammer 40,000 Imperium. Or Imperial China. Or any number of other "Imperials".

Armada likewise could be anything. Spanish Armada. Firestorm Armada. Battlefleet Gothic Armada. Star Trek Armada even. By the way I do know BFG was dumped and Star Trek is "Attack Wing", but my point is it could mean anything.

But X-Wing can only mean one thing:

STAR WARS

Not when you're on this page it doesn't. Look at that. Grr!

How do you pronounce XMG as an acronym anyway, just out of interest?

It's only an acronym if you pronounce it as a word. NASA is an acronym, FBI is an initialism, for example.

Because it's an elegant game from a more civilised age ;)

:D

Given that it's quicker to say "X-Wing", I don't. :D

It's quicker to say "phwoom pchu pchuu", so I say that. Even if it's not quicker.

Uhh, yeah it saws Star Wars right above X-wing. Star Wars X-wing Miniatures Game.

Now the Hyper Link only says X-wing (no star wars or miniature game) but it is under the Star Wars tab. You have to be really narrow sighted to think of it as anything other than a Star Wars themed game.

Hold on.....hold on.....I'm building you a bigger yet less sturdy soap box.

Eh? Did people even read my post? I'm at a loss as to how anyone could have gotten the impression that I was suggesting it wasn't officially a Star Wars game! Are you all replying to the topic title without reading the first post? My (/somewhat/ tongue in cheek) complaint is about the list of games where all the rest have Star Wars in the name, such as in the link provided, except X-Wing. It's all right there in the first post.

Edit: sorry, it was my follow up post (#6) that has the link! Apologies to those who read the first post but not the rest!

I do have to wonder if FFG would have named it "X-Wing" if they knew how big it would get. It really locks that particular ship in as the face of the game.
