Naming your generics.

By Talonbane Cobra, in X-Wing

One of the voice over quotes from battlefront two is given to the first and second generic I assign a target lock to. "Victor Echo 1-2" becomes Victor-1 and Echo-2. It got confusing after the phantom though.

"Johnny Bravo" comes up from time to time. Just depends on what lock tokens I teach for first after the V.

Kenneth would definitely have a mini-Biggs effect. I could see someone opting for a R3 shot just to get a ol' Kenny.

I would.

Funny you should say that as I was just changing the art on his card.

Is there a generator of sorts where you can do that, or are you just editing it directly with the correct font? I'm seriously looking at printing this, haha.

We do the same thing with our TIEs - traditionally there's always a TIE fighter named 'Josh' somewhere. Also in our Heroes of the Aturi Cluster coop campaign our callsigns have generally been silly:

  • Y-wing 'Load Dropper'
  • X-wing 'Rubber Ducky'
  • B-wing 'Drift King'
  • X-wing '3 Dice of Gravitas'
  • X-wing 'wubwubwubwub'
  • X-wing 'HERO OF KVATCH'

I used that french guys editor to make the name and the flavour text, then i used photoshop with the real academy tie card image and blended them because his card is faded and has some annoying watermarks and also used a z-95 card as a layer to add the illicit slot.

I was looking at printing a whole deck of them using a pro printer so they looked and felt real, but the resolution of the source images isn't high enough.

I was thinking of giving them away with my e-bay upgrade card sales.

:D

I really love the Illicit slot idea on Kenneth as a bit of fun, since he's unique you can't spam anything but would be funny to give him a hot shot blaster or glitterstim.

Talonbane Cobra was a Generic.

Only after surviving the crucible of beta testing did he become - Talonbane Cobra

I'm boring, If I have multiples of a generic on the table I call them "(Squadron)(number)" Although I do come up with different squadron names besides colors...

My brother had a mini tie swarm against me the other day and he had: Frontie Oney, Frontie Twoie, Backey Oney and Backey Twoey.

Even when they switched positons in the cluster he still knew which one was Backey Twoey for instance, and insisted i call him that even though he was now in front.

Dirty Randy

...the coked up, schlitz guzzling, ace prototype pilot, the bane of Admiral Ackbar

This. I used to use Gladius as my squadron name, but more recently switched to Night.

Night One and Night Two are my Defenders. Night Three and Four are my Phantoms. Night Five and Six are Punishers. Night Seven and Eight are Advanced. Night Nine, Ten, Eleven and Twelve are Interceptors. Night Thirteen and Fourteen are Bombers. And Night Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen and Eighteen are Fighters.

Obviously, they each use the correct ID token. And I tend to use these names for them even when I'm flying unique pilots in them(in fact, I'm often tempted to take a label maker and stick their squadron name on the card sleeve over the pilot's name).

"Oh my God! They killed..." (sorry)

Would LOVE to see someone produce little cardboard tokens with the correct thickness with various nerd culture icons. Instead of four Bandits, why not Leo, Donnie, etc.

Weirdly, I've never named my generics. They always have different personalities, though.

One of my academy pilots got a rep for taking out my friends Wedge on numerous occasions. To honour him I named him Chemise-Rouge.

I made up a card for him, still have it, and numerous others from his academy class including such potential aces as:

Camisa Roja, Rote Hemd etc etc.at last count there were 12 of them from the Galaxy famous class of the red shirt.

Some other Tie generics got named too, Chemise Noir from black Sqn and Chemise Royale in his red interceptor.

I had a good experience using printerstudio before - we printed some ship maneuver reference cards from a BGG thread on their premium poker cards, and they came out just like we expected.

i have an X Wing pilot named "Carlos Danger" ;)

A friend of mine likes to name his generic pilots and in one game where he had an Academy Pilot he'd named him Kenneth.

Kenneth kind of stuck as a name for any Academy Pilot, and his back story got fleshed out, so I thought it would be neat if Kenneth became a unique with his own ship card:

I invite you all to use Kenneth in your casual games, and Alex / Frank if you are reading this, please feel free to bring Kenneth in to the official ranks of the empire! (Yeah I know that won't happen)

Whenever I wind up playing a Bounty Hunter (Which is fairly often, honestly), I always use the Proof of Purchase cards as their markers, rather than the numbers.

I also use the Critical Tokens for Maarek Stele.

If we had TIE Scouts I'd throw Jondo in there in a heartbeat. Sadly we do not have TIE Scouts.

Granted, his ship is much more of a TIE/RV...

If we had TIE Scouts I'd name the generics after knots I knew how to tie... Which means I'll only every fly 2.

Overhand and Figure Eight.

Stop making me want the TIE Scouts I'll never get :(

Perhaps English town and village names offer another alternative for Rebel generics?

Chipping Norton?

Saffron Walden?

Corton Denham?

I even rambled passed a "Hell Bottom" recently...

Better than 'Generic' Ace...

Royston Vasey :)

Royston Vasey :)

Would have to be a K-Wing pilot with some very strange crew!

could even use something like this:

http://starwars.namegeneratorfun.com/

Ksoral Snasfe.

...this is why I don't trust RNG. How the hell does one pronounce stuff like this?!

Also: Space Cekemo

Seriously? "haaa, sup Space? Wanna go to space, Space? Hop in my spaceship, Space!"

Kes-or-al Snaz-fey

Was an easy one.

I mean, hell, my RL Surname is 9 letters long and does not contain a Vowel.

And when he gets destroyed it's ... "Oh no! They killed Kenny!"
