I think it's interesting that all of our current commanders all have benefits only for ships. I wonder if we'll ever get ones that have benefits for the squadrons. I wonder what these hypothetical commander benefits would be.

Well Dodonna provides plenty of benefit to squadrons. He synergizes divinely with Luke, and not too shabbily with regular Bombers. He ups the danger from any given Bomber attack, and puts the defender in the position of spending defensive tokens before they are even attacked by a ship.

You might only be able to spend 1/3 of your points on the actual squadrons, but when you include squadron upgrades like expanded hanger bay, Admiral Chiraneau, etc. in that it's probably closer to half in a squadron heavy fleet. Irregardless, there are definitely fleets which focus on squadrons instead of the ships and I think it would be interesting to see commanders that only improve squadrons.

Technically, Motti and Dodonna are the most squadron oriented Commanders here.

First, Dodonna is pretty self explanatory due to the large synergy with Bombers. Not only in the sense that Bombers can inflict critical damage but also because Bombers can deplete shields and defense tokens in preparation for the ship to deal a crit more easily.

Second, while Motti's ability benefit ships it benefits them passively compared to Screed (where you want ships to trigger critical effects throw upgrade cards) and Tarkin (who makes ships more efficient). Motti on the other hand actually reduces the number of ships needed due to making each ship more resilient.

2 Carrier Victories with a nasty amount of fighters-bombers will work well because you can tank extra damage (up to 4 with a Brace per Victory, so up to 8 with 2, which is the equivalent of adding an extra Victory EDIT : in terms of hull points only).

The OP was looking for commanders that ONLY benefited squadrons, which sounded a bit far-fetched to me.
