Damage with munitions

By Tybalt027, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok help me out here.

This question pertains to plasma torpedoes specifically and because I'm having a brain fart on how basic munitions work.

Plasma torps state that after dealing damage remove 1 shield token from the defender.

Is this meant to imply that the torp damage is done to hull and then the shield token is removed or does the damage get deflected by the shields and then an additional token is removed?

Lore wise missiles and torpedos aren't even slowed down by shields so this sort of makes sense but it seems mechanically wrong.

Help a friend out please.

You do damage like normal with a Plasma Torpedo. After dealing damage, if the target still has shield tokens you remove one.

If a Plasma Torpedo hits an undamaged X-Wing for 1 damage (after all defense results are applied), it will end up doing two points of damage against the shields.

If a Plasma Torpedo hits an undamaged X-Wing for 2 damage (after all defense results are applied), it will end up doing two points of damage against the shields.

When it comes to dealing damage munitions work just like primary weapons do (unless there is text on the card that says otherwise).

Range bonuses don't apply to munitions and ships with turret primary weapons or auxiliary arcs can only fire munitions out of their printed arcs.
