If we're gonna see lots more low PS ships then is it worth using Grays at PS4 instead of the PS2 Golds? I want to use two Y-Wing with TLT as half of my squad.
Is it worth using Gray Squadrons instead of Gold Squadrons now?
Can be, especially if you anticipate a lot of low PS ships to go against and you think those two Ys can deliver some killing blows.
But I still only use my Gray to set up Eaden Vrill.
Though I also like the idea of using the EPT droid to give one Deadeye and then loading him out with ordnance.
This is the eternal PS bid conflict that has been lacking the past couple of waves.
The answer is: maybe.
I have been running a list with a Gray Warthog. His primary job is to stress things for Mr. Vrill.

You already said that.

Pretty sure that's two different users, but awesome that first three repliers all have the same Y-Wing avatar on this Y-Wing-related thread.
More relevant to the current thread: Greys are awesome in Epic! But that's not a surprise as most of the second-tier generics are awesome in Epic...
My Predator card says to please keep using the PS2 pilots. It's so much easier for me. Kthx.
With all the ships around with predator, yes, it worth to use PS3+ pilots instead of 2 or 1
**** grays, use Roark . he's like 3 times better

Sure thing. Where do I install R3-A2?

Crew slot, he goes by Tactician these days.
This would make my obsidian pilots very sad. Please don't make them sad.
I must say with some embarrassment that this thread is the first time it's occurred to me that I can go with the middle-PS generics to set up improved firing sequences for my squad.
This opens a whole new approach to squad building in my mind. Fascinating.
Golds are better blockers than Grays, but the protection from Predator is a great reason to pay a bit more.

Such a nuance!
I'm digging this thread's ability to show me previously unconsidered subtleties of squad building.
Always something new to learn in this game.
It would work against the mirror but you have to consider all lists. Low pilot skill will remain easy prey for high pilot skill ships like Soontir and IG-88 B w/VI. So even though your Grey squadrons will be abel to shoot before Gold squadrons they will still shoot after Soontir and brobots who have the greatest chance of facing the TLT at range 3 unscathed.

Can't argue with the factuality of any of this, but aren't there just as many lists that use all or mostly lower PS ships? A single IG is gonna be really bad news for a single Y-Wing, any way you slice it, right? Same with Soontir. Things are a little different when you have multiple TLTs coming at you though. I can see Brobots being a tough out for a bunch of TLT Ys, but there are lots of lists that Brobots are hard on. As for Soontir, isn't your everyday Decimator + Fel list a fairly good matchup for a bunch of TLTs? I could be wrong as I play a lot less Standard...
It, as ever, depends.
PS2 to PS4 is important for Y-wings and B-wings because you will generally take 4+ attacks to put one of those tanks down - which means that they'll not be killed (at least not in the first pass) by an 'ace' leader, but by the fire of the generic pilots in a list (if any).
Having PS4 generics means you get to clear your guns without being killed by PS3 targets.
Take a TLT pack's least favourite foes is a pack of generic heavy fighters and/or a TIE swarm. You don't need high PS because you can't really arc dodge and don't really care where the enemy is. Also, 2-3 PS7+ fighters will really, really struggle to drop a Y-wing.
4+ generic fighters, on the other hand, can kill you in one volley. So you're worried about losing a ship at PS3-4 - hence taking PS4 ships makes you confident you'll get to shoot.
Also, actions don't really matter - you have too many attacks to modify them all, and it's not like your defence is based on focus or evade tokens, so getting blocked is not the end of the world.
As a side bonus; when facing TIE swarms - one of a Y-wing packs least favourite things - if you fire at PS4, you get to drop howlrunner before the PS3 obsidian squadron pilots fire, and (if you have initiative) before the PS4 black squadrons do too. Not only is that one less attack coming at you, it's a massive drop in the squad-level firepower.
Thanks guys, reading this has convinced me to go Grey, it will be the first time I've ever used them!
Now to work out what to use the other 46 points for....
My short answer to this is: to me it only makes sense to run generic mid PS pilots if they have an EPT. So no, to me it still makesno sense using them especially since Predator is seen a bit more rarely now it seems.

Can you expand on why we are expecting to see more low PS ships please? Is it to do with the new TIEs and T-70s? Or something else?
(Not trying to sound obtuse. I'm generally interested in why this expected to occur.)

I've seen it mentioned multiple times on my interweb travels that there's going to be a shift towards lower PS pilots, I can't point anything out in particular though as I'm a forgetful so and so.
I assume TLT has a big part in that with people trying to fit in as many as they can?

I have found your suspicion to be highly accurate so far. Brobots have the total hit points to withstand multiple TLT attacks while they get in close to wreck shop. In my last match I basically ended up trading Torkil w/ TLT and a StarViper for IG88B. My 2 Y's weren't able to get enough damage through on the remaining IG quick enough. In retrospect I would have played it a little differently but it's still going to be a challenge for TLT's.
Interceptors don't scare TLT's.
