New TIE/FO Fighter article is up

It's another one for newbies, of course.

Designed to take advantage of swarm tactics and numerical superiority, the TIE/fo fighter is an extremely agile, mass-production fighter designed for swarm tactics. However, it’s not quite as fragile as the TIE fighters that were flown during the Galactic Civil War. Instead, its hull and shields were reinforced to improve survivability. The result is a more durable First Order fighter with two attack, three agility, three hull, and a point of shields.

These statistics make the TIE/fo fighter less individually powerful than the T-70 X-wing that we saw yesterday, but there’s another important number associated with every ship in X-Wing – its squad point cost.

Once you’ve learned how to play X-Wing, the game’s rules for squad building afford you tremendous flexibility in your tactics and strategies, even with just a few ships. In short, you start with a certain number of points that you can spend to build your squad, and each ship card and upgrade you select costs you a certain number of those points.

Although the T-70 X-wing is both harder-hitting and more resilient than the TIE/fo fighter, it is also significantly more expensive to produce and costs more squad points. At twenty-four squad points, the least expensive X-wing, the Blue Squadron Novice , costs a full nine squad points more than the First Order’s fifteen-point Epsilon Squadron Pilot.

Meanwhile, your TIE pilots can take advantage of the ship’s loaded action bar.

wait, whose action bar?...

zeta-ace.pngAt eighteen squad points, the pilot known as “Zeta Ace” costs more to field than your basic Zeta Squadron Pilot , but his pilot skill value is two points better, affording him more time to react to enemy movement and making him quicker on the trigger. Additionally, his unique pilot ability allows him to use the straight speed “2” template when he performs a Barrel Roll, instead of the speed “1” template. Along with his increased pilot skill, this ability makes “Zeta Ace” far more capable of outmaneuvering enemy fighters than the other, rand-and-file members of Zeta Squadron.

"rand-and-file," eh?

And there's an error on it.

It's showing the T-70's action bar.

Dat omega Ace with PTL...

Can they really not manage to upload an article without any mistakes?

I love you, FFG, but dang!

Nice catch. Added to the OP.

Dat omega Ace with PTL...

Yep, that was actually a good suggestion on the article's part.

Hell, that omega ace with PTL paired with Epsilon leader...

it mentions that its the t-70's bar if you read the thing.

"Like the X-wing, the TIE/fo fighter allows its pilots to both perform both the Acquire a Target Lock and Focus actions. However, whereas the X-wing features the Boost action, the TIE/fo fighter trades that action away in order to gain both the Evade and Barrel Roll actions.

  • The Evade action is an excellent option for TIE pilots engaging X-wings at long range as it can help them fly unscathed until they can close to Range “1” and perform their attacks with an extra attack die."

PTL Omega is basically the only real way to reliably utilize that ability

the question becomes, how useful is that actually for 23 points? Maybe the PS 7 will make it a decent option.

the TL + focus combo's 90ish% full hits going to 100% is all well and good, but we're still flying an A-wing on no tokens if you expend PTL to set up his ability and we're still battering 2-dice against enemy greens.

They need to fire their article publisher. Its embarrassing.

Not sure if Omega Ace is going to be all that good. He's 23 points with PTL, but he's still only a 2 attack ship and with the durability of an A-wing w/o ATs. Now when you can TL + Focus its pretty sweet, but its still only 2 dice. Normally you'll miss or only get 1 hit through. You'll want to force range 1, but he's pretty fragile there. He's PS isn't all that great either at 7. I think you'll want to throw a HU or SU on him. That way he doesn't just evaporate to HLC fire. Essentially he becomes a more maneuverable Advanced.

I do like Epsilon leader, just wish he had an EPT.

to be more optimistic, though, Epislon leader is already very obviously useful and I think there will be a soft spot in my heart for Zeta Ace

Zeta Ace basically works as an annoying pain-in-the-ass and will appeal to anyone who enjoys flying such ships :)

Lower PS opponents? arc-dodge the **** out of them

Higher PS opponents? wheeeeeeeeeeee~ get blocked, scrub!

Bit harsh, especially when the writer, the proof readers and the person who clicked "publish" could all quite easily be different people. Hell, the people who edited the text and uploaded the image could be different people.

I click publish myself a lot on customer-facing websites, so I know it can be easy for something to slip through the cracks. We have an adage that if anything, anywhere on the website is wrong, you can guarantee a customer will spot it if you don't.

True, but are other articles messed up? Or just X-wing? I really don't read other ones.

There is something wrong in every single X-wing article without fail.

It says the following directly before the image of the X-Wing action bar: "Meanwhile, your TIE pilots can take advantage of the ship’s loaded action bar." Most people would interpret that as being the TIE/FO's action bar, not the X-Wing's. Yes, the action bars of the two ships are compared in the following bit of text, but the whole thing is introduced by the above line that only mentions the TIE Fighter's action bar before showing an action bar.

They posted the wrong action bar.

"Keep checking back"

FFG you're playing with my heart here!

They got the segnor loop speed number wrong too - says 3 in the article and then 2 on the dial and example!

Omega will probably do best when paired with someone like a Squad Leader Vader. Something like this would have potential:

Darth Vader

- TIE/X1

- Advanced Targeting Computer

- Squad Leader

- Experimental Interface

Omega Squadron Ace

- Opportunist

It comes to 35 points for Vader, plus 24 for the Ace. Vader gets to attack and strips tokens, setting up a 3-4 dice Opportunist attack from Omega.

It does say keep checking back for info on the T-70 X-wing and Tie /fo Fighter, and since we know everything about the ones in the core set.......

There's also a bit about Tie Fighters having a 3 S-loop....when it's a 2 S-loop.

They probably got it mixed up with the tie cog they're announcing tomorrow.

An entire week of Force Awakens previews? That would be nice.

I'll be very surprised if we end the week without announcements for the T70 and TIE/fo expansion packs.

3x Academy

I tried playing 5 Omegas with Wired and Guidance and found they just didn't have the firewpower needed to take down ships like the Interceptor and the Phantom. I think this list would fair better. 6 total TIEs, three blockers, and three with abilities that help bring the pain. (I like PTL on Howl in this case to keep her turttled every round without having to deal with the stress.)

Um, guys? I played 2 games (won both vs veteran players) this weekend with Omega Ace with VI, and Carnor Jax with VI and AT, and just paired them with Yorr with AdvS and Fleet Officer.

So, I know it bucks the "You must ptl" trend, but there are alternatives to ptl. And staying stress-free and still having 2 actions really opens up the TIE FO and Interceptor dials.

****, I was about to do some work...
