Too much jousting?

By Lord Ashram, in X-Wing

You think that is why FFG introduced the tallon roll? Maybe they wanted to gently remove a little bit of jousting?

Talon Rolls and Segnor's Loops are a way to break a straight joust without just letting someone onto your tail. Lightning Reflexes, too.

It gives someone options, which are always good.

Yeah, the problem with the T-65 X-wing is that while not every ship has to be a jouster, the X-wing's lack of abilities and middling dial means jousting is pretty much its only option. I mean, it has the exact same maneuver options as a Z-95, which is a pure jouster. The T-70 was given more maneuverability options to try to break that rut instead of making the T-70 just plain 'a better jouster'(I don't think FFG wants to push the B-wing out).

My concern about it is that a lot of the maneuverability is a lot better at high PS, so you'll see Poe, maybe Blue Ace, but I doubt you'll see the generics because they're hard to slot into lists.

I guess they wanted to boost the sales of new starter.

Yes I'm stupid and short-sighted, but I dont like seemlessly unlimited amount of options. Last waves and core sets brings Magic the Gathering to my mind and why I chose to drop it when the colors were messed up.

But that is my opinion and others surely may have theirs.

Does anyone joust after the first few games?

I know i never fly straight into the guns of my friends.

I think some Wired Red Vets will be fun because their turns and rolls will be unpredictable and they have less incentive to clear the stress. Doing a green and Boosting seems inferior in many causes to just holding your stress and doing whatever direction maneuver you want.

When I've got a list that should win if I can force a joust?

Absolutely.

the K-wing and Punisher are about the most "PLEASE DONT JOUST US, BRO!" ships that ffg has ever invented

seriously, their jousting efficiency is in the pits :P

the T-roll is still jousting, it's just cooler and can get your T-70 around obstacles

Exactly. I mean, the Talon Roll is just a fancy k-turn. What allows the T-70 to avoid getting stuck in a jousting situation (assuming you don't want to be in one) is boost! That lets you take a hopefully unexpected turn and add some more distance to throw your opponent off (then hopefully set up a more favourable position for next turn)

I see both the t-roll and s-loop to add a much needed dynamic to the game. For the most part, a fight jousts, then k-turns. It's the same problem with the defender, predictable.

I think initially, red maneuvers (stress in general really) were looked at like an extreme choice. Because back then, there were no good ways to still have efficient action economy whiles stressed (ie predator). Now, stress isn't near as dangerous as it once was, so k-turns are increasingly common and increasingly less risky. The t-roll and s-loop allow for a level of choice to break up that monotony.

the choice involved in s-loops and t-rolls gives some much needed flexibility when jousting in a dense arena of obstacles :)

if there's one thing the new ships can do better than their counterparts, it's moving around obstacles
