Not this again. Just equip APL to your Lamdas if it bothers you that much. Sorry if that seems overly rude, but I had a really long and really frustrating debate about that once, nothing I would like to repeat. Worst of all it was entirely pointless, because there is no way to implement that in an elegant way for FFG.
The Lambda Shuttle was overpowered - FFG had to limit Tactician because of it. ![]()
Allowing the shuttle to fire backwards would make it top tier again. ![]()

I thought that was in response to triple panic YV-666?
The Anti-pursuit Lasers are meant to be those cannons. I think it fits the concept of those cannons and fits the shuttle very well. Besides, its more interesting than just a rear arc.
Then it should come with APL stock. ![]()
Then it should come with APL stock.
Give me one ship in Xwing that comes with ability of this caliber (hey! any ability!) stock?
Then it should come with APL stock.
Should the HWK have a Blaster Turret stock because it is modelled with one? The YT-2400 only be able to be run as Outrider with HLC?
Model and gamepiece are somewhat disconnected in X-Wing, this is not 40k.
The x-wing and b-wing should totally have closeable s-foils, tie fighter cockpits should open up, and the large ships should come with light and sounds, and the cards should all be hollofoils, oh and the cards should all come with the artists signatures on the back, it should be free, and finally, the scale of the game should be 1/1 with working ships that we can fly into space.
Well as someone that has Tried Firesprays only to watch them and others just like it get torn apart by the likes of Whisper, Soontir, and Dash I will tell you a rear firing arc would not save the shuttle.

No. The shuttle has been used a lot in the past. "Top tier" shuttle builds are: The Buzzsaw (Gunner, FCS and EU), the Dogfighter (HLC, Advanced Sensors, EU), the Doomshuttle (just Vader crew) and, as a new addition to the roster, the Palpmobil (Palpatine + stuff, an "optimal" build hasn't crystalized yet). Not a lot of Tactician there. Double Tacticians was good, but not as good as other builds. It can be seen as a second crew on Buzzsaw shuttles, making them Hacksaw shuttles, but even that isn't all that popular (pretty good, though).
Shooting backwards isn't worth much with a dial like that.

Exactly. There is no k-turn, so you will still have to turn by using banks and boost/2 turns. If someone is behind you he will get into the blind spot with ease.
Reports just in of Lambda Shuttle VK-119 being buzzed by a heavily modified YT-2400. It slipped out of firing arc before the crew could react. Apparently one of the portholes was open and a droid was observed thrusting its buttocks section out for inspection.
Edited by LampyridaeGiven how obvious a Firespray style rear arc was for the Lambda I'd imagine they probably tested it and decided against it.
Aaand this is why the Delta class escort shuttle (imperial firespray, mel model until it gets an official release - if it gets an official release). APLs are the rear cannons, i've also had a long frustrating debate about this in the past.
Lambda should be what it is, but FFG should release the delta class for something similar.
But the Escort Shuttle is probably the single worst looking thing to come out of the flight sims...
But the Escort Shuttle is probably the third best after the assault gunboat and DX-9 Stormtrooper Transport. looking thing to come out of the flight sims...
Fixed that for you.
Anyway, weren't you bitching about the R-41 earlier? (another ship I like)
What about the IRD and Planetary fighter from Alliance? they were as fugly as sin. Hell even the T-wing which I can all but guarantee will appear as a rebel ship at some point was pretty boring in design.
And the Muurian transport for that matter.
Escort Transport (as opposed to the escort shuttle, THAT was ugly).
THEN, AAAND THEN let us get to the TIE Experimentals and if we count rogue squadron as a flight sim the TIE Hunter.
I could keep going. Alliance had some great designs in it (maurauder, preybird, SKIPRAAAAY) But it had some complete shite. Even then, the Maurauder and Skipray were previous designs that alliance added into the quadrilogy. I can't speak with certainty for the preybird.
...and all of this is just from the X-wing series. Jump to lightspeed gave us some spectacular examples of ugly. The rickzryck for example. Now, I can see the attractiveness of the Krayt, Kimogila, Iyixien and duny, but they aren't all exactly pretty.
Also, the video games gave us the TIE Punisher, which however you like it's abilities is an aesthetic atrocity.
Edited by DariusAPBThe R-41 Starchaser looks like someone decapitated a particularly butch Y-wing, mashed its face up and stuck two tiny stubby wings on it. It looks out of proportion, like one of those LEGO micro-fighters they make now. It reminds me a fair bit of the Scout Y-wing toy from a few threads ago.
The Planetary Fighter's dull but it does look like a starfigher. The IRD looks like it's out of another universe entirely.
But all bow before the king of abominations. I've yet to find a good looking picture of the Escort Shuttle. The thing is an abominable mass of contorted polygons: it looks more like a rendering error than a ship.
I could actually see a scout y-wing "reimagined" looking quite cool, but the R-41 I do like.
The Escort shuttle to me looks like an uparmoured lambda, the fact it has forward swept wings earns it a +1 from me on general principle (I get huge boners for forward swept wings, I honestly expected if SW was remade the x-wing would get this treatment). I guess ultimately we have different aesthetic tastes, To me the ESC has a utilitarian, armoured look - kinda like the Starchaser, there are way worse ships in the EU that could (and already have been) released.
Also:
Though I will say, this looks nicer.

Lastly, I think this ship is pretty ugly, but i can respect it for the roles it's played:

Lastly: If you want an example of worst design in the series. I give you: The pinook fighter

Edited by DariusAPBThose are for large ships and platforms, not dogfights.
But the escort shuttle? Yes please.

EDIT: Ah, you've found the XWA Upgrade one. And I'd venture to say even they failed to fix the thing.
EDIT 2: Even FractalSponge himself struggles to salvage this thing:
Best I've managed to find so far is this one, and they've deviated significantly.
Because you kinda have to.
The weird guns on the wings are just killing the escort shuttle. Move em back to the main fuselage and be done with it. Oh wait, then it just looks like a Lambda with a large aft turret.
The weird guns on the wings I actually kinda like, but admit that's an aquired taste.
You post those images and you dont post the coolest one?? ![]()

Love you Mel, I still need to LED the backside of mine.
Also, considering giving it a layer of colour on the camo rather than my current flat imperial grey.
