So i was having thougts on what could be done to fix the xwing and the ewing auickly and efficently, as i really enjoy both ships. First thing to consider was the problems, namely that the xwing and the ewing suffered from being slighly overcosted compared to the competition of the bwing and the T70 respectfully. Secondly i had to consider the ships iconic roles and where they should fit into game play. The xwing has always been in the movies and writing a nimble ordnance carrier. Torpedos sank both death stars and the rogue squadron novels are replete with them leveling capitol ships with well timed torpedo volleys. The ewings are the successor to the xwing but are designed with better agility and sensors, as reflected by their stat line, they were, however, an unpopular and unreliable prototype for a long time before reaching mass production, and most expert pilots like wedge preferred the comfort of their xwings.
With this in mind, FFG should release a rebel aces 2 box with an ewing and xwing. New pilots are always gravy and it would be nice to get a Corran Horn xwing with corsec paint job and maybe a whistler astromech and wedge antilles crew card. The box should also come with 2 title cards. These should be Rogue Squadron and 5th Fleet Pilot. Both would be zero point upgrades like the Tie Advanced card and have similar uses. For the rogue squadron card it should only be allowed on pilot skill ships of 5 or greater and give a -4 cost to torpedo upgrades. This allows the xwing pilots to remain a deadly option with plenty of tricks up their sleeves, and allow the use of the iconic prton torpedo in gameplay in devastating Rogue style alpha strikes. the 5th fleet card will do the opposite in that it will only be usable on ships with pilot skill 4 or lower, and simply give a flat -3 point upgrade, allowing for the low level Ewings to compete for space with the new T70, since they are now in competition as hardy arc dodgers, plus the Ewing named characters are still quite good without it.
Obviously this isnt a perfect solution but given the games name sake and the nature of the rather oddly costed Ewing wave I think these changes could really change how these ships operate and allow the rebel players more flexibilty in their ship options. Let me know what you think!
