With Disney now owning Lucasfilm I was wondering if their normal routine of placing movies into the Disney "vault" for a decade and then re-releasing them will effect Star Wars. Also curious if they place a film into their "vault" if merchandise for these films still be allowed to be produced.
Disney/Star Wars Question
Umm, they haven't exactly been doing that with Marvel. Besides, Disney doesn't fully control the distrubution rights at the moment.

Has merchandise for any big Disney movie ever been OOP?
Sure, a Black Cauldron doesn't have a lot, but Snowwhite? Bambi?
I think Disney is interested in making new products from this franchise instead of just locking it up an reselling it later. Especially when much of the media has now moved from physical medium such as VHS and DVD tape to digitally distributed on demand media. That practice which you have mention will no longer generate a profit and will more than likely encourage piracy of said products.
Disney needs to release the original theatrical versions from the Lucasfilm vault, where they have been since the 80s VHS releases.

Oh I guess it was the originals. Too bad they made about a dozen or so copies. And that was almost 10 years ago. And not on bluray. Hmm I might have to buy those anyway, my VCR is getting tired.

Are you sure that wasn't the special edition?

I remember at the time they released the Theatrical Edition they advertised on the site with "See Han shoot first!".
Should be 'Han shoots.' And that's it.
Those DVDs that included the original versions? Yeah, I've got 'em.
And guess what? They're not enhanced for widescreen TVs. So you're basically watching the film within a large black frame. Not fun.
Here's hoping the originals get the treatment they deserve on both DVD and Blu-ray.
And still waiting for Tosche Station Biggs scenes. Jabba at Mos Eisley was a useless rehash of the much superior Cantina Greedo conversation.
Let Biggs out of he vault! HD original trilogy releases! Take my money!
And shouldn't this be off topic?

First and only.
People really need to finally understand that Disney currently has no distribution rights for the original Trilogy. While I believe they may get the rights to Empire and Jedi at some point, A New Hope is with fox "in perpetuity". That means forever, potentially. If Disney wants to throw the right amount of money to buy rhe rights, they may. Until then: Stop. Complaining. About Disney not releasing them.
If fox was smart, they would plan some releases and flood the market with versions of the films just before disney gets/buys the rights. I'm not sure if George Lucas still gas any say with fox as to what version gets released, original or not.

Um i was complaining about the films not being released, of about Disney. I don't care who has the distribution rights if it's fox or whoever, they didn't get it right in the past and they need to make up for it. I don't care how it happens, it just needs to happen, and as the IP owners Disney can certainly lean on Fox to get it done, and Fox can ride the coat tails of TFA hype train and release stuff if they aren't scared of what the mouse will do. If there's money to be made, then someone is gonna figure out a way to do it. We will see in March/April when Bluray TFA drops.
TL;DR whah! I want my movies back!
Fox holds the rights to ANH indefinitely and can make way more cash just sitting on them then ever releasing the original. Disney knows it can not releaze the others without ANH.
Also, Netflix is becoming the only place to stream Disney movies very soon. I'm curious if perhaps Disney is reconsidering it's "vault" strategy. In this day and age, it's not really feasible. They just lose out on money when desperate parents will do whatever to get the movie their kid wants. It's too easy these days.

How does Fox make money on just sitting on ANH? Do they get money every time someone quotes the movie or plays with an action figure? Residuals, then?
I wouldn't be surprised if, after this December, The Diz coughs up another couple/three billion to buy any rights Fox has.
I'm sure the Disney shareholders will be pleased with spending another amount in the billions.
Fox and Disney will work together, simple as that.
I'd personally like to see all the 'american graphitti' cut scenes.
From what i've read the original screenplay of ANH had much more 'coming of age' stuff in it, lots of teenagers wondering what to do with their life hanging around toschii station.
It was all cut becasue it might be considered too similar to Lucas 'american graffiti' in tone/content from what i read years ago.
Not sure how true that is.

It's about 5-10 minutes of Luke hanging around his 'friends' Cammy and Fixer and Deak and Windy trying to convince them he saw a space battle (Tantive IV and Devastator) when Biggs shows up and tries to recruit Luke for the Rebellion. Luke wusses out and that's about it. And right before that there's a busted Treadwell droid that Luke abandons at a moisture vaporator. I guess that's why they needed more droids, Luke breaks them and then leaves em for jawas to scavage.
