Question about monsters and gates

By torgga, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I understand that when you enter a square that has a gate you are immediately drawn threw whether there are monsters or not.

What happens when you return from the other world and there are monstor at the gate??

Do you evade or fight the monster before you seal/close gate?

Do you seal/close gate and on the next turn evade or fight the monster?

Can you do both in the same turn, ie seal/close gate then fight the monsters or vise versa?

Well, sorry to say, your understanding is wrong. Monsters are dealt with (Evade or Fight) in the Movement Phase (Phase 2), while sucking in doesn't happen until Arkham Encounter Phase (Phase 3).

When you return normally, during the movement phase, you can ignore the monsters on the gate for the rest of the turn, so you can close/seal in the Arkham Encounter phase without interacting with the monsters. Rules do seem to suggest you can fight the monsters on the gate when you return, but if you do, better make sure you can take them out, since again, movement phase = monsters, Arkham encounter phase close/seal.

Basic rule of thumb:

Follow the Phases.
