Hold Up! Poe with Weapons Guidance?

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing

So can Poe use his pilot ability to flip a focus to a hit and the. Spend the token to change a blank to a hit? That makes his damage extremely reliable.

Am I just the last person to realize this?

Can someone do the math for predator/WG on Poe?

Edited by TasteTheRainbow

No, we've realized it, but you have to spend 2 points and lose the focus for defense.

We'll, I doubt your the last one to realize it, but

Yeah, it's a pretty good combo. Pretty good shot at getting 3 hits often, even at long range.

Yeah, if you've got Esege or Kyle (or Garven with either R2-D6 and VI/Decoy or Roark or another PS8+ with Swarm Tactics) hanging around so Poe can keep his defense (and, of course, R5-P9) that's a pretty nice attack.

It's good but costs you your Luke ability for the rest of the turn, and the potential to modify all your attack rolls, all your defence rolls and to R5-P9 a shield back at the end of the turn.

It's a reason to bring Garven at least.

You can use his ability to change one focus to a hit, then spend it to add a damage. If you are shooting after your enemy you already had it for defense

Yeah but with a guy like Poe Poe he is not to worried about green dice... I mean with the crazy maneuvering the glory dat is the NEW T-70... whew! If you get hit a lot, you just suck as a pilot.

Focus for days on Poe. He can boost or TL, get a Focus from Kyle and then from Garven. Should have one to save for R5-P9 on most occasions. I love TLT on Rebel HWKs. Especially with Predator and all the focus from Rec. Spec and Moldy. Against 1 agility targets its nearly a guarantee of two hits. Against 2 agility it hits quite often as well.

Esege does really seem like his friend. Easy to trigger his ability and easy to have extra focus to use Weapons Guidance. Those combined mean he really only gets less than max hits if he rolls 2 blanks, which happens little enough that a damage EPT probably isn't necessary. VI + roller droid, and we have a nasty piece of work.

Except Esege's ability only works when attacking. Given you can spend Esege's token to keep your own for your Luke-like defense... but still. I wish Esege's was "when rolling dice" or "when attacking or defending" or something. I feel it's too limiting as is.

Esege... Katarn...

...It just occured to me that Weapon Guidance does not say, "Once per round." It only says you need to spend a focus. Poe really CAN do 3 automatic damage with enough friends. And so can a blue rookiee if he has enough focus tokens.

That's not bad considering the guaranteed damage output. I wonder if tech upgrades in general are going to be like that? Just making things mathematically superior? Seems like a limited upgrade type.

keep the focus and use predator or lone wolf and reroll the blank to a crit :P

I just played this list over vassal (trading EM for Advanced Slam at the last minute), againt TLT Horton and 2 FCS/HLC Bwings.

Despite an early misplay, the list rocked hard. Esege plays arcdodger, throwing out turret shots when he doesnt need to SLAM, with 2 focus tokens every turn- and his ability (if he stays close enough to the T70s) lets them focus and Weapon Guidance even on T-rolls and Kturns- they're basically guarenteed 3 hits, 4 at short range, barring a truely awful roll. Against the low agility in this meta, I think this list might have some small potental.

I saw the combo but then I saw the K5-P9. Flew Poe tonight and even though I didn't win, combination of dice and learning the new upgrades, K5-P9 was great. I almost never had to spend the focus since rolling more than one eye was rare. So I had the focus left at the end of rounds to beef my shields. (But screw the Proton Bomb and the Punisher Pilot that throws his bombs in both front and rear. Poe and my other T-70 both drew critical damage and the second T-70 died with all his shields intact.)

Learned a lot tonight, like that Punisher pilot is a pain. Need to figure out how to hit him without getting in his bombing range.

Why are you flying T70s without Autothrusters?

Go home and rethink your life choices.

Except abilities like that are once per opportunity. So if he attacks twice somehow, he can use it twice. But on any single attack, he can only use it once.

Indeed. It's spelled out quite nicely in the new rule-book as well, IIRC.

I cant claim this as my own but
