Chornicles of the Gatekeeper status?

By Lauguz, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

They will stretch out announcements over the course of the next months or so, probably with a Chronicles hitting the shelves a week prior to Thanksgiving, Strongholds hitting just in time for Black Friday, and then Keeping the Peace timed to release with the TFA release. Or in some variation of that order based on how projections for which book will sell the best being the last one released.

Or at least, thats what I'd do.

EDIT: Also realize the Asmodee merger, took place last year, so I doubt that has anything to do with the release schedule as FFG has been operating as a member of their group for awhile now.

I was just able to order a copy of Gatekeeper so I'm thinking it's in the wilds.

Isn't FFG under a new Euro parent company these days? Is is possible corporate said to sit on all of it for a holiday release to bump up end of year numbers?

No they are not under a European company. They merged with one. And no they would not sit on product till xmas. That would be stupid. They were delayed because of the LA port problems.

Normally I'd agree with the stupid thing, but with TFA coming out in Dec. a holiday release of all things Star Wars might not be a bad call. If they're selling Yoda's Green Grapes (yes... really) there's clearly a reason to believe people will be buying anything Star Wars... Lots of people have gotten into a Star Wars RPG because they bought a sourcebook first, then figured out it's a game...

That has not been how FFG has been acting. And we have a stream of items that had been stuck in the LA port coming out now. So i am going to go with no it is not the TFA. Not to mention they have already released the TFA version of x-wing. Which would have made sense to time with the movie. They did it for force friday instead.

Its in stores now. YaY the evil forces of the Dock Workers have been defeated and we can now buy the book.

Without those dock workers the book would still be sitting there. Try to show a little respect and empathy for their side of the issue.

CotG is starting to be available in some UK stores now too.

Picked up a copy today at my FLGS. I won't spoil anything story wise, but are there any general questions?

What's the new species like? Are there stats for Clone Wars things? Is it a good adventure? What are the new planets like? Are there epic lightsaber duels?

The Sathari are pretty interesting, I think, and you get stats for a couple cultural items to pair up with. Only a couple CW droid adversaries, but not much else; most of the Clone Wars era stuff is story based and not stuff. The third planet is a spoiler, I think, but the first two have been covered in previews, Arbooine and Cato Neimoidia.

I can't really judge whether or not it's a 'good' adventure or not (too subjective), but the first 2/3 seems very social/mystery in nature. You mostly deal with the aftereffects of events that took place during the Clone Wars. Multiple places talk about awarding Conflict, and there are boxes on using Morality and Knight Level play in several places.

Everything else would be spoilers.

What is the setup and is there an obvious way to connect the temple in the Beginner game adventure?

The setup has you responding to a distress signal and subsequently finding the holocron.

As written, you'll probably need a ship. I would say it makes an ideal follow up to the Lessons from the Path/the one from the GM kit, but depending on how you ended Mountaintop Rescue/Lure of the Lost, it could tie in as well.

However, there is a bit about substituting the holocron you receive at the end of the beginner games with this one, if that works.

What exactly does the Force power in that book do?

Any new ships or other vehicles?

There's a Mobquet swoop with some stats (and a full price listing, unusual for an adventure module), but not much else.

The stuff tying into the clone wars sounds pretty great, I like that kind of thing. Very interested in this adventure.

As I haven't had it come up in my games, what are people's general reception to toxins and poison reservoirs? Are they just gear or potential game breakers? Because you can buy what amounts to a poisoning stick and venom for pretty cheap in the adventure.

I tend to use lots of poison with a model 77 and usually its not extremely effective.

I'm looking forward to slotting this in as part of a mixed-party KOTOR campaign, subbing the Jedi/Sith conflict for the CW and a damaged Republic (and still dangerous Sith Empire) for the Empire. Figure to do break it up the timeline a bit to weave it into a larger story line and a little editing to smooth out some issues. Probably use the Sith similarly to the Nazis in an Indiana Jones story line.

I would say this is doable but requires work. Post-KotOR during TSL wouldn't be to bad, but anything during TOR would be dicey.

I flipped through it. It has Droidekas and BX Commando droids...So that is good for the clone wars people.

I like the new Force power. I also liked the way that upgrades were broken off based on how far into the story you have gotten.

what is the new force power?

It's called Warde's Foresight. The basic power is mostly narrative, but upgrades give you bonuses to your Initiative rolls, or allow you to add Boost to some of your rolls.

What he said. But what I think I like most is how the upgrades can't be learned till you gain certain rewards from the story. I like the narrative function that serves.
