Seeking advice on bomb advoidance

By D00MSTALKER, in X-Wing

With wave 7 and the introduction on the SLAM maneuver, connor net, cluster mines, Deathrain & his forward deployment what is the best tactic to avoid flying into or having ordnance dropped on you?

I was thinking of starting to equip some Ion Pulse Missiles on high pilot levels to ionize the Punisher/K-Wing and try to take em out before they can deploy the majority of their munitions.

I would love to hear other suggestions and know if anyone was successful with their strategy.

What do you usually run?

Well panic attack will work. Deathrain can't drop mines if he is stressed. Also stress can stop slam.

But to be honest don't worry to much about bombs. Those that can deliver bombs have 2 things against them. 1 they can easily be focused downed, and 2 bombs are discarded when used.

What do you usually run?

I normally don't run the same squad. Yesterday I was running a rebel list and had Deathrain drop his forward deployed Connor Net on one of my ships. This happened in both games I played vs different opponents. I am planning on participating in an upcoming local tournament and was hoping to have some strategy to avoid this as I feel a majority of players will be using Punisher/K-Wing. I do like the stress suggestion, I will have to play around with a squadron builder and see what I can come up with.

he can actually still drop seismic chargers when stressed as it isnt an action .....

"When you reveal your maneuver dial, you may discard this card to drop 1 seismic charge token.

This token detonates at the end of the Activation phase."

Yes but seismic charges you can avoid by staying clear from them. If you follow very close to a bomber well they will drop a bomb if not to harm you to at least discourage you renaming on their 6. So don't go range 1 to a place that is 2 bases behind them.

Now mines thanks to the FAQ is somethign that can be impossible to avoid as now the detonate when placed on top of you. This is where the only avoidance is to deny them actions by either stress or blocking. Now of course they can still drop those timed bombs like seismic charges, proton bombs, and the new ion bomb but if they do that and get blocked they will get caught too.

If you don't think that is possible then I encourage you to play a game with bombs, you will find that they are quite difficult to deploy effectively and with the new heavy bombers and EM tokens you may find out that you only have the opportunity to drop 1 of your 4 bombs as your ship gets destroyed before you can drop the other 3.

The K-wing is a real beast, and avoiding it's advanced slam bombs basically comes down to either 1) use cover to your advantage or 2) stay out of its front 180 degrees.

People are excited about deathrain, but the generic k-wing's ability to hunt down and drop bombs on the face of targets such as soontir and whisper? I think the rebels, who started off not having bombs at all, now have the best bomber in the game. Whisper especially is in trouble, as the K can change its flight path to account for her decloak, and then net her, stopping her from recloaking that round, and moving the next...

I just got done playing a tournament last Sunday with two punishers. One being dead rain. The key is never joust with deathrain. He does have a 4 k turn so if you slip by him burn him. I had that problem with my second match. Also remember that some players play with advanced Sensers which can cause head aches. Best way to beat him is to out fly him. If you not the best at flying then high ps ions are good like you said.

Perhaps ironically, or at least counter-intuitively, approach from behind.

Deathrain and Conner Net will be hard to avoid if you approach from the front. Just come in from the flanks.

EDIT: Or....if you are coming in as a group, have your ship you don't want Netted to go slow the round before. So....all your ships move up....then your big ship only goes 1 forward (or something similar). That way, you aren't in the front line where you expect Deathrain to go next turn. You have a line of other ships in front of you.

You can also go with a cheap ship to be your net runner (har) to suck up your nets for you.

the answer is blocking

if were talking action dependent mines and SLAM, you can block either the initial move or the slam move to shut off mines for good

K-wings are FFG's not so subtle way of getting us to play more ships again :P

obstacles also limit where the K can do, though it can always do hilarious fun **** like U-turn around an obstacles before farting conners in some poor bastard's face
