The Oncoming Storm OOC

By ColonelCommissar, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Yeah, that's fine by me.

By the way, my character is also a close-combat specialist (as befitting the Infiltrator tree), and he has a Refined Cortosis staff from the Force and Destiny rulebook. My idea was that a Sith personally wiped out a lot of his former squad, and he acquired the staff in case he gets a chance at a re-match.

And I like the Alderaan idea...good opportunity to tangle with Sith!

I think that Vohr's master is dead by now.

To quote his motivations:

"Connection: No one
After he has lost Master Sconact, he has no one left to care about."

But I'm not sure. Wulie, please elaborate if your master is dead or not ;-)

At the moment he's Schroedinger's master: half-dead and half-alive at the same time...

Updated squad story:

- Rion and Rast were members of a Special Forces squad operating on Alderaan. The rest of their group was wiped out by Imperial troops, lead by a dark-clothed, masked Sith-Lord (no specific features, you didn't see his face, only a helmet under a black hood --> that way it's easier for our GM to insert him in the story if he chooses so...)

- As a result, Rion requested a cortosis staff to go toe to toe with the ominous Sith-Lord, should they ever meet again...

- After that horrible loss, they were ordered back to Coruscant to fill up their numbers.

- The astromech droid T9-M4, a long standing member of Special Forces HQ and tasked with strategical analysis, was instructed to find suitable candidates in the Republic military databases

- A small number of applicants were invited to pass several tests.

- The medical and psychological tests were performed by Ash of the Republic Medical Corps. Unknown to him, he was considered as a candidate as well. After the end of the examinations he got new orders that surprisingly for him placed him in the squad as well.

- Marcelus was chosen as commanding officer. He was a SIS officer who had already expressed the wish to work with a small team.

- Dag, a mercenery, had recently offered his services to the Republic, when he was invited to Coruscant for several obscure tests...

- Vohr has volunteered for work with the Special Forces to be far away from the Jedi council and to distract himself from the death of his master (or not, see above)

- After the squad had gathered together, they were placed on a transport with the destination Nar Shadaa. They were told that more specific orders would be given to them en route.

- Rast was given the position of tactical consultant, to gently guide his rather inexperienced new commanding officer...

- T9-M4 was sent with them to keep an eye on them (To the GM: maybe he will brief us for our first mission?).

I like the Alderaan addition as well. To add just a minor piece to that (andI didn't put it on the forum, but on my character sheet), you can see that I'd written in that Ashrym's father took part in the defense of Alderaan (shown in the video that ColonelCommissar had posted (the Hope trailer for SW:TOR). His father died in that, which is what prompted him to join the Republic Medical Corps. So, yeah, I love that tie-in.

It's certainly bringing everyone together. Perhaps Vohr's master got KIA/MIA on Alderaan too.

I like the idea of T9 being loaded with a hologram briefing for the mission.

My Master is very dead. And you are right, seeing him die in the Defense of Alderaan and perhaps having met the rest of the team (or parts of it) would be nice.

Yup seems to be working alright. Alright, we're nearly there. Just a few things needed to get started.

Currently only Rion needs some work - he needs a background, a motivation, and he currently has too much Duty.

Everyone else, if you could confirm you are happy with your character and post a single Force dice roll we could get started!

Background Story 1

Rion did his best not to fidget as his father exchanged greetings with the other Master in the entry hall of the Jedi Enclave on Dantoonie. The Mirialans were a spiritual people, given to calm meditation and deep introspection in all things, or so his father told him. Rion had never been good at that; he was only eight, and had a burning question that he needed to ask. If only those two would just stop yapping for a moment…

Not that Rion—or anyone else, for that matter—would ever dare to speak to his father so. Master Asharr was also a Jedi Master of repute, and right now his hands were on the shoulders of Rion`s elder sister, who was about to be apprenticed to the Master in front of him.

“Your father speaks highly of you,” the Master spoke, her face breaking into a slight smile, “but then again, most parents do—which is precisely why many Jedi think such attachments are troublesome.”

Rion`s father made a dismissive noise. “Family is the center of Mirialan life, and these bonds make us stronger, not weaker,” he said. “And I am more than aware of the shortcomings a parent can have, which is why I`m apprenticing my daughter to a Jedi teacher I trust more than anyone.” The other Master bowed in appreciation of the compliment.

Jyara beamed at the warm words her father and the other Jedi spoke regarding her. Four years older than Rion, her face was already adorned with the ritual tattoos that Rion himself would receive when he finished his primary education and set out upon his chosen path. Of course, his would be different; every Mirialan bore their own pattern written upon their faces.

“Come, Jyara,” her new Master spoke. “You have much to learn, now that you are finally free of your father`s smothering embrace,” she said, though the wink she directed at Master Asharr belied any sting to the comment. Rion`s father only raised a single eyebrow in reply.

No goodbyes were spoken as Jyara walked away to her new life; it was not the Mirialan way. But Rion`s father never stopped watching until she passed from sight; clearly, he had never been so proud.

Rion saw his chance as her father moved to rejoin him and the two began their walk home. “Father,” Rion began, suddenly feeling hesitant though he knew not why, “when will my time come?”

“What time is that?” his father replied, looking down at his son.

“When will you start training me in the ways of the Jedi, so that I may go off to become a Padawan like Jyara?”

His father stopped abruptly, a deep sigh escaping his lips. He slowly turned to regard Rion, a look in his eye that filled the boy with apprehension.

“Rion,” he said slowly, “the ability to become a Jedi is a great gift, a calling that few receive. Not everyone—not even most—can walk this path. The Force flows through all things, but only in those that it flows most strongly in can learn the ways of the Jedi.”

“But our family is strong in the Force,” Rion said. “You…Jyara…I can be a Jedi too, right?” He felt his stomach turning in knots, his heart already knowing something that his head could not accept.

His father regarded him steadily for a few moments more. “No, Rion,” he said finally, “you do not have the gift.”

Rion`s heart sank upon hearing the words he feared he would hear someday. “But if I study hard…practice my meditations every day…maybe I can…?”

His father shook his head. “It doesn`t work that way,” he said softly. “But we all have our own talents we should always seek to develop. Those who do so are praiseworthy, regardless of whether they are touched by the Force or not.”

Rion stared at the floor, his mind and body numb. He didn`t care about such meaningless talents—none could compare to being a Jedi. He could feel his dream slipping through his fingers, and the emptiness he felt made him feel as if he would just collapse upon himself.

“Take you, for example,” his father continued, putting his arm around his son`s shoulders and leading him towards their home once again. “You have such a way with machines. Even without training, you`ve proven quite adept at tinkering with droids and vehicles. Though,” he added, his left eyebrow once again raised, “you do seem more adept at taking them apart than putting them back together.”

So what, Rion thought bitterly. Who cared about worthless machines?

Seeing his son was inconsolable, Master Asharr sighed deeply again.

“I`m sorry to see you so disappointed, Rion,” he said, “but it will all work out in the end. Trust me. The Force will guide you to where you need to be.”

Hey, I just checked wookiepedia for some croos-reference on Alderaan and realized that we have just created a continuty error.

According to our GM, the game is set in the 10th year of the Great War (3671 BBY), but the Battle of Alderaan happens in the 14th year of the war (3667 BBY).

So we've got three options:

- stage the background for our character stories on another planet.

- set the game in the 15th year of the war or later

- just ignore the information above and play in an alternate timeline in which Alderaan gets attacked earlier ;-)

Any thoughts?

Sorry, my fault. This is the 15th year of the war. My bad (big time). But it's a big hole in the war history, so I thought this is a good time to go in. I'll explain the strategic situation in the opening post of the IC thread

Ok, then I'll adapt my character story. Thanks for the clarification!

No problem

Alright, we're just missing the Destiny rolls from awayputurwpn and Wulie (name and shame). I've got the opening crawl and the initial intelligence briefing under construction, and we're nearly ready to go...

Destiny roll (sorry, I had to work overtime yesterday...)

I hope this part of my story matches this figure:

A tall figure in dark robes, the face masked by cold, emotionless steel- a servant of the dark empire, a disciple of the dark side.

The background narrative works for me. I'll incorporate it into part 2 of Rion's background story.

Orokos makes problems for me atm... I can roll dice but it does not show me the results

Here I can see the results- strange
