Welcome to The Oncoming Storm! Your characters are a grizzled team of soldiers in Republic Special Forces, like these guys:

Havoc_OM.png

Of course, you might choose to be a mercenary working for them or a Jedi assigned to them, so EotE and F&D careers and specialisations are available.

For easy character creation here are some guidelines:

  • All characters are Knight-level, giving you each a bonus of 9000 credits and 150xp (to be spent after character creation - so no tanking one characteristic!)
  • Any published PC options are open to you - this may be an AoR game but EotE and F&D species, careers and specialisations are encouraged to be used
  • All characters have a Duty score to the Republic. This starts at 10 for each of you. All bonus xp/credits are taken using Duty
  • Characters may take on Obligation in exchange for something useful in the course of gameplay. However this is something you need to consult me on and we'll work out a solution
  • Force-users should still take a Morality score, but it has less emphasis in this game
  • Let's keep all gear at a maximum of Rarity 6 for now
  • I'd also prefer if we had just the one Jedi, since this game is less focused on them. I'd agree to two if two of you came up with a good reason for them to be together

Please post your character concepts here for discussion as a group, so we can focus the party to its most efficient incarnation.

Let's do this thing!

I would like to fill the Jedi-Spot with a Shii-Cho-Knight. Would build it a little "tanky". A jaded, freshly- knighted Jedi Knight who just lost his Mentor- and now quarrels with the Codex of Jedi.

Could be interesting. As a Jedi you'll have a Morality score in addition to Duty, but that's mainly for power and character development. Still, having a character who has to stay moral at all costs could chime well if the rest of you play gun-toting, detpack-flinging, problem-solving, ****-not-taking badasses.

Sounds like fun. And a little bit like a job for a Nanny.

Bearing in mind this nanny has a three-foot plasma-field sword from a galaxy far, far away...

I'll play a Mercenary Soldier, hired to fill out their ranks a little. No-nonsense, does-what-needs-to-be-done kind of character. Human most likely.

Sounds good, I can work with that. Given that you're a SpecFor team you might want to play as different specialists in different areas. Different incarnations of Havoc Squad had:

Commander

Demo man

Technician

Medic

Stealth expert

Assault specialist

or

Commander

Weapons specialist

Medic

Assault droid

Demo man

Technician

So there's a lot of archetypes to fill. Of course this isn't me telling people what to do but I had an idea of the feel of the campaign. And yes we're using swsheets. That's a nice character concept. Not sure why all the Brawl though? Also, you still have 500 credits beyond the lightsaber's initial cost so you could buy some gear. What did you use your Duty for?

I was leaning towards Jedi also, perhaps on assignment from the council to watch over Wulie in case he falls to re dark side?

But if we wanna stick to just one I'm more than happy playing as something else.

And I fully see the irony of me wanting to play a Jedi in an AoR game.

Well it's not ironic when you're playing a Jedi at the height of the Old Republic (well I say height - you've been on the losing end of a war for the past ten years or so). I'm kind of in an odd place over the Jedi. Part of me says that this is a game focused on the average soldiers, and so Jedi kind of break that. Then again this is your game and if you can come up with a valid reason to all be together then who am I to disagree?

I still have my duty, was a first concept. And I thought, a Master of Lightsword Combat who gets beat down by third-class gang thugs does NOT sound epic- so Brawl.

Decent. Why do I get the feeling though that the parts of the Jedi Code that say "Thou shalt not drink nor enter into barfights with unfortunate nearby non-Force users" will go out the window as soon as you get some R&R on Nar Shaddaa?

I will propably spend my duty for credits....

Bearing in mind you all get 10 to start with that's a good amount of credits you're all getting even if you want to keep your scores up (and you probably do)

Is there something I am missing or does the Swsheet lack a space for duty/moralty?

It's a problem I found too. I just use the section for other notes at the bottom,

I had thought about a Consular (Healer) assigned to the group to support the team in the field and make sure everyone makes it back home with all pieces intact. If Wulie and I could work something out that would be my preference, otherwise, I will retain the group healer role and play a Solider (Medic).

Potential Consular background for Wulie and ColonolCommissar to review: Aerys Venn is a human. Her potential as a Jedi was recognized at a young age and she was placed into the care of the Jedi, who then raised and trained her. Her temperament and gifts leaned towards aiding others, although she of course received basic martial training. As a trained Jedi healer, she works not with just repairing the body, but also with repairing damage to the mind and spirit, trauma and harm that is much more insidious and dangerous. This is where her potential link to Vohr Yondu (Wulie's character) comes in. The Jedi Council is concerned for Vohr. They sense the struggle that the loss of his mentor has caused and so have made arrangements for Aerys's services to be at the disposal of the Republic unit that Vohr has been assigned to, not only to help the team/squad, but also to try to mend Vohr's spirit.

Edit: While I had this open over the past hour, typing and retyping different background variations, I see that Revanchist7 had a similar idea.

I like your Idea, but I would like to hear more of Revanchists plans before I say something concerning preferences :)

I'm cool letting other people play with the lighsabers, I'll think of something from AoR.

On the top of my head bothan spy and astromech droid both sound fun.

Or an Astromech Spy- they never suspect the little tin bucket...

Alright, guess I'm filling the role or weapons or assault specialist.

Here is my character. I have Dangerous Covenants ,which is where I got my weapons.

I'll probably build a few characters and then pick the one I like best.

Khesh, not to tell you what to do but again with the AoR focus a Soldier (medic) might be more appropriate. Revanchist, a bothan spy might be a fun thing to play around with, as I had planned a strong intelligence/counter-intelligence theme to the adventure. Allenowen, just some advice but you might want to bump your characteristics up a bit, they're looking a bit thin on the ground!

By the way, whenever I have some time, I work a little on my flashlight wielder. Just updated him a little bit.
