The Oncoming Storm OOC

By ColonelCommissar, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

When I'd read Old Republic, I had thoughts of the SW: TOR trailers and got the Jedi largely stuck in my head. I apologize.

So, new concept. Ashrym "Ash" Karm, career soldier. He's jaded and seen too much death. His one job is to keep his unit in the field and patched up enough to punch holes in whatever the Empire is planning because this war isn't going to win itself. But, I'm not necessarily sold on him so I am going to craft up a saboteur as well and then see which speaks more to me.

It's not a problem. Jedi are certainly part of the setting, but in this adventure I'd hoped to focus more on the average soldier. Plus the 'Hope' trailer has some very badass stuff from the Troopers that definitely shows them as more than the side-characters (

Just so you guys know, I've spoken to FeBommel (who's having trouble with posting atm) and he's looking at possibly playing a Politico/Marauder. He'd be the face character, since he'd be an Alsakan noble with a penchant for duelling. So feel free to make merry with the Rupert...

Ok updated my character a bit. Bumped up Brawn.

Hi there.

I only have the EotE-Corebook, so I'll make an EotE-Character and I'm not exactly sure how Duty works.

I apologize for any mistakes in advance as English is not my native language.

I'm thinking about playing an heavily modified Outlaw-Tech/Slicer astromech droid. If there is no healer, I could also go the Outlaw-Tech/Doctor route. Obligation would be Paranoia and Duty probably Internal Security (at least I heard that's an Option ) due to his former team including his owner gotten wiped out completely during an intelligence mission gone bad. He was separated from his group to hack a local com-relay-station but still connected to the security fed of their hide-out, so he was forced to watch via holo-stream while a Sith-Lord and his troops stormed the hide-out and killed everyone. His owner knew that the droid was watching and gave him the command to bring the already gathered data back to the Republic instead of foolishly rushing in, trying to save everyone and being shot to pieces...

A second option would be an Alsakan minor noble. He would be a Politico/Marauder. Think a noble who is experienced in fencing (dueling) who volunteered for the SIS at the start of the war. Think of a posh upper-class spy out of an impoverished house. His weapon of choice would be a vibro-sword. I don't know which Duty would fit him, his Obligation would probably be family. He would definitely wear a moustache! (Maybe a monocle as well? <-- This little item would of course have the properties of the scanner lenses out of the Corebook...). He could be the face of the group to fast-talk our way past any guards and if that doesn't work, well, then he's at least already in melee range...

The third option would a Duro Driver. Maybe I'll throw in Big Game Hunter as well, maybe not. Basically she'll drive any vehicle our group could stumble across. But I must confess that I haven't really padded her character story out yet.

At the moment I'm leaning heavily towards the astromech but as Revanchist7 maybe wants to play one as well, I'll flesh out the other character concepts too.

I’ll post my character concepts tomorrow evening (UTC+2).

Cool. In my experience with Knight-level games you're best off using most or all of your species xp on characteristics so as to give yourself the best dice pools in the coming game.

Looking for any feedback from our GM or players.

My possible medic.

My possible saboteur.

Still have to do some attachments on both of their gear because that's a lot of credits for stuff.

My idea was to play a Jedi Sentinel Stealth specialist, but it seems we are already Jedi heavy...

I like the Medic very much- but it looks a little bit underarmed for the credits you have. Is it intentional that you are "only" armed with a normal blaster pistol? Would perhaps (if you want to stick with ranged (light)) upgrade it to some kind of heavy blaster pistol, like the Dragoneye Repeater (a personal favorite of mine).

(And why do you have Bacta Specialist four times?)

Edited by Wulie

The medic certainly looks fun, I'd go with him! I'd agree with Wulie though that you're missing out on a whole range of shooty-shooty by going with a basic blaster pistol!

Korro Zal, you could go for a cross-class Soldier with Commando and one of the Spy specialisations, or even the Shadow tree if necessary.

Btw, I've decided to bump the rarity cap up to 7. Feel free to go nuts on cool gear

Also, I've decided that I was possibly being too dictatorial in trying to make people play one particular set of careers. People who want to play Jedi can do so, I'll happily accept it. So long as you can provide a valid reason for why you're working for Republic Special Forces I'll happily accept any concepts

Ah, now I can finally post!

As I mentioned in my PMs to ColonelCommissar, I'll play an Alsakan noble: human, male, Colonist-Politico, 2nd specialization Marauder --> a gentleman spy duelist.

I'll post the background story and swsheet later today.

Sorry by the way for the huge font in my former post. Apparently something went wrong...

Edit: Scaled the font in my upper post down

I will work out that other career I had proposed working with Wulie's character and see if I can add to it and compare it with my Solider-Medic.

Thanks for catching the Bacta Specialist thing. The site crashed on me while editing the character yesterday and quadrupled (no idea why) a bunch of stuff that I had entered (talents, weapons, etc.). I caught most of it, but clearly missed the Bacta Specialist talent doing that too.

On the career feedback, thank you to those who provided it. I've settled that I will play doctor to the group one way or another. I wasn't liking the feel for how the saboteur talent tree was looking.

Also, I appreciate the note about his armaments. You are definitely right, he is underarmed. I will look into adding some sort of heavy weapon (rifle or carbine of some sort) when I get home and can flip through some books (or a light weapon with some oomph if I can find something in a career book). I tweaked my skills, dropping Ranged (Light) down to 2, which let me add Ranged (Heavy) at 2. Originally, I was intentionally not arming him heavily (I had crap for encumbrance), but added a backpack and utility belt, which gave him some room to breathe. I'll figure out something a little more substantial this afternoon.

I like the gentleman spy/duellist, FeBommel.

Just a suggestion, but I thought perhaps you could take the combat medic for a reason I shall outline here. Bearing in mind that this is not an instruction, just something I'm bouncing around, here it is:

A theme I thought I might have for this initial 'season' (I'm running in-game sessions as 'episodes' as with a TV show, which are divided into seasons) is "The Things We Lost" - each character comes to the team having lost something important in their life. Vohr, for instance, might be mourning the death of his master shortly after his apprenticeship ended. Ash could have been assigned to the team to keep them in the fight both physically and mentally. He was a psychologist with the Republic Medical Corps, and now he's lost his cosy practice to be thrown into the galaxy's deadliest firefights. He's there to keep Vohr balanced, but the others as well. But that's just one version of the story, and I'm pulling back from dictating people's characters to them.

It's a start. Oh and that picture is classy as hell

I like it. I'll just work on tweaking Ash (especially his gear).

Wow we are underway already! I knew I should have checked this forum yesterday!

Okay...hmm, I was planning on playing a mobile Guardian type Jedi. Bodyguard talents, etc. Likes to stick close to his allies, provide them with protection. I'm still reading through the thread, so I'm sure I'll think of something else.

Yup, I'm assuming you'll go through one or two different concepts Just to throw some ideas around (to the people who don't have a character yet) we're lacking a proper range-focused character, so you could play around with a heavy gunner featuring the various repeaters featured in Dangerous Covenants or the CRB, or perhaps you could take a sniper character. There's a galaxy of possibilities...

Yeah I'll do a Sharpshooter. That might be fun.

Question: can we buy restricted stuff? I am looking at Heavy Battle Armor specifically.

Republic's finest and all that...

My character sheet is finished, now all I've got left is to write Marcelus's background story...

He has three different suits for different environments:

A Republic laminate armor and a vibrorapier for battle.

A Lashaa silk suit and a sword cane for social interactions and casual wear.

An Imperial officer's uniform including a forged imperial ID and the vibrorapier for infiltration missions.

Edit: Background story added. Feel free to mention any suggestions to improve my character.

I think I'll make a Spy/ Infiltrator or an Engineer/ Saboteur. Someone else is considering the latter though, so I'll have to wait and see.

EDIT: I just double-checked and it seems Khesh is going to pass on the Saboteur. Okay, then; I'll do one or the other...or possibly both!
