I must admit I am disappointed based on what Peterson said at GenCon a new starter pack that is almost identical to plug a new movie is pretty limp

Almost identical? The ships have different stats, different dials and different actions, effectively they're completely different ships. The upgrades we haven't all seen yet, but from what we've seen we know they're going to be very different.

All the upgrades are in that article.

My question is, is this new Core Game a one-off thing, or will we be getting more additions (I'm thinking mainly upgrade cards for the moment) from this part of the Star Wars universe in future X-wing epansions?

That is to be expected. There really is no reason why FFG shouldn't do that. That tech upgrade slot will probably be the trademark of these new era ships.

Are they? How do you know that?

It has been spoiled for some time now. And, quite a few of us have bought one. There are only five upgrade cards in the Core set.

Because I have it.

5 upgrade cards, 2 astros, 1 EPT, 1 Tech and proton torps.

Wow, just one EPT? So two players just using the core set can't each have one (well, they can share the card I suppose, they're obviously not entering a tourny).

How's that compare with the original core set in terms of number of upgrades - I don't remember.

There you go then, completely different.

Same number, 5. Original core set has: R2-D2, R2-F2, Determination, Marksmanship and Proton Torpedoes.

change of paint job for a new base set............

the new movie was coming out FFG were forced to create a new set and release it on that date

Is it me or do the bollock droids go in to the astro slot upside down? The model looks like more of a sphere on the back and BB-8's head is clearly much smaller than an old astro.

If I understand the Tallon Roll corrects, to be able to perform the manuvre, you must have room to fit the side of the base, flush with the template, before you are allowerd to nudge the ship forward along its side? So the manuvre fails if the is an obstacle or another ship blocking that start position right?

Yeah. In which case it would be like a blocked Koiogran where you would move along the template with both movement guides straddling the template until you hit the ship that blocked your movement. You would not rotate your ship at the end of the movement.

Based on the Hasbro and Lego toys, the droids go in the same way as always.

Weapons Guidance is not a good idea on Poe Dameron, LoL. He wants to keep his focus token to keep using his pilot ability, and since he fires before most other ships being a pilot skill of 8, he won't have his focus token for defense if he spends it on his attack with Weapons Guidance. C'mon, FFG

I like it well enough. If you have a focus and a blank, this allows you to get 2 hits out of 1 focus token. That's not too shabby.

Exactly. Say you roll a hit, eye, and crit while you have a Focus. You first trigger Poe's ability to turn an eye into a hit. Then you spend the Focus to turn the blank to a hit. It's a pretty nice combo, but forces you to lose the token for defense. As has been pointed out above, there are times when it's worth it.

The roll was hit, eye, blank? Use Poe's ability to make it hit, hit, blank and then Weapon Guidance to make it 3 hits.

That's kind of sweet.

Whoa... My cockpit glass on my Ties isn't nearly this red.

Its a very dull reddish brown.

I'm sure that was their motivation, but that's still a very disingenuous (and silly) description of what's actually in the set. Everything in it is new except for the shape of the ships, so everything that has an actual gameplay effect is completely new (except the torps).

The models are actually completely new. Even the TIE/FO. There are some amazingly subtle changes made to the models.

The x-wing is definitely a new mold, but I can't find anything suggesting the tie is anything other than a repaint.

I really doubt FFG was forced to make a new starter. It makes good business sense to have a starter that ties into the new movies.

I have seen pictures of old and new TIEs next to each other. The new one has thicker connections to the panels and some different/new detail. Don't have a link at hand, though.

I tried explaining the nuances to my wife. She couldn't see it but she took my word for it.

Ties in hand

the FO is visibly bulkier

Another pretty aweful article. This is just more stalling and filler. I get that they need to bring along all the newbies that just dropped $40 on those game for the first time but this is also their big money maker.

Can't. Stall. Us. Out. Much. Longer.

Amazon has the new core set to release on Sept 18. Probably get a real announcement for them Friday.

compared the TIE ln to the FO; Fo has a different engine layout to the rear, the Braces are bulkier, the detail on the front is more pronounced, and the left brace (looking head on) has a hump to it where antenna shown in the card art would go.

You have to get really close to compare. The most obvious is the pylons are thicker and a different shape. But the wings are slightly smaller as well. The cannons actually stick out further on the FO, and has almost a secondary gun on the side. The engine circle on the back is a different shape, and deeper. Then there are really fine details that are different.
