Retreat!!

By ovinomanc3r, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi, I read the overlapping funny thread and something come to me.

I didn't find a rule that disallowed me to put the maneuver tool pointing backward.

Of course, I don't need a line telling me that I can't do something but with the logic of someones, I need it.

The question: Could I find a TO who let do this only cause it's not covered by the rules?

For me that sounds stupid but following someone's reasoning... I find move backward more useful than overlap my ships at the setup.

"It's a trap!" will means anything anymore XD

Another one of these types of threads....oh man, hopefully it doesn't turn out to be like a certain other crazy rule thread...but on to topic!

Ships move forward, they do not move backwards (engines in the back of the ship push the ship forward, not the other way around :P ). No decent TO would allow you to move backwards.

Well, you have to align the maneuver tool into the guides that are at the front of your ships base.

There are no guides at the back so forward is the only way to go.

I agree %100 that ships only move forward and there is no place for a ship moving backwards. Not only does the LTPG show what is allowed on pg.10, but the maneuver tool doesn't have negative numbers on it. Nor do any of the movement areas of the on the ship cards have negative numbers. We can also compare the difference of how squadrons move to how ships move. Squadrons move anywhere within their range, while ships are not afforded that luxury.

Now, just to play devils advocate, you could put the maneuver tool on the front notch pointing the other way. It's not legal, not will it ever be allowed by a TO or a person with any kind of sense. But you could put the tool in that position to really confuse everyone watching.

We are also moving space ships. For a ship to move backwards it has to stop it's forward momentum and needs a lot of thrust to go backwards.

Thanks I didn't want start a new discussion. I agree that ships move forward but the "it's not in the rulebook" confuses me. I wanted to know how a TO could resolve this. I never played a tournament and I don't know how they treat this questions.

For me, as I said, it's obvious.

I don't have one in my hand, but I'm pretty sure the ruler dosn't fit into the guides backwards. That makes it an invalid placement, according to the rules.

On top of that the ruler is meant to show movement from the tip of the base. If you are going backwards you would have to slot it into the rear of the bas. . . oh wait there are no guides at the rear of the base

You can put the tool into the guides just pointing backward. The distance of the movement is the same.

But my question was resolved. Thank to all!

At times you do have to use common sense. No rule set is going to be able to list every possible thing that you can't be doing.
