Back to the OT...

There are very few GW games that I miss, BFG is one of them. The battles that my friends and I had were epic in nature, with many moans, groans and cries of victory. Hours of enjoyment were had. If there were any game that I would like to revisit, it would be BFG (followed closely by Mordheim). I really miss playing my Eldar fleet at times.

My fleet of 30 models, mostly plastic cruisers and a few escorts and battleships went for just under £400 in the end.

So if you dont play your eldar sell them and you'll have money in the bank for the next two or three waves of xwing

My Eldar are long gone. I sold off all my GW stuff probably 10 years ago. I just couldn't take all the shenanigans any more, and saw the writing on the wall as to the direction the company was taking. I had fun at the time, but it was time to move on. Made a pretty penny from my stuff.

I had a large Chaos fleet that my wife painted for me and I sold it on eBay a few years ago to pay for my initial X-Wing stuff. It cost me probably $250 to 300 (US) to buy, I got close to $800 for it all on eBay. It helps that the wife is a great painter.

I also sold a bunch of Mechs she painted for Classic Battletech for a lot more than I thought I would get.

I could not paint myself into a corner.

I miss playing BFG though, the rules were just complex enough.

I can't bring myself to selling my painted 40k stuff. Largely nostalgia but largely cause i like the looks too.

My Crimson fist honour guard is technically the last thing my mum ever bought for me, too sentimental to get rid of that. My BFG fleet was painted at a certain time of my life too, so can't be rid of that.

I'm too **** sentimental.

I have other problem. I have 40k to sell, just no one wants to buy.

Yeah I have full armies and fleets for wargames I haven't played since dad died plus decks for CCGs that I pretty much only played with him and haven't played since his death, and rare board games I've never played with anyone else that I could make a ton of money off but I can't bring myself to sell them.

Hell when mom got me a PS3 for Christmas with part of the life insurance money I bought baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey and soccer games for it which I played once or twice apiece just because dad always bought a bunch of sports games for us to play whenever I got a console while he was alive.

I always regret selling painted models. I sold my old dark eld 4th ed army , 3000 points very well painted (my stuff used to get into studio collectors guides etc) and 3000 points of Imperial Guard cadians (all been in white dwarf and imperial armour books) for next to nothing to friends (because working at GW you got sacked if you ebayed stuff).

Mainly did it because 'new' plastics came out and they were free, then you realise you cant face painting another two huge armies so i ended up with two partly painted , not wholly assembled plastic armies.

Since then i've always kept painted 28mm stuff as its always useful for a variety of games but BFG is quite niche. Much as i love my painted chaos fleet (and it does look ace) im never going to use it, the imperial fleet i had purely as a fleet to loan someone for a game against at home, i had no intention of playing it so never got round to painting it.

While you cant really do 'excellent' paint jobs on BFG stuff (its not the scale , its the clunkiness and amount of 'texture' on them) i was pretty pleased with my chaos fleet.

The GW stuff i dont part with is 80s lead citadel like 'rogue trader' 3rd ed warhammer, judge dredd ranges. That is just shooting up in value and now costs more for some stuff than current range stuff as its just soo much nicer

Well this seems strangely ironic. Here you are saying how you regret having to sell some BFG models, and just this afternoon I finally finished the last two cruisers for my Imperial fleet. Go figure.

I know what you mean about the old stuff going up in price though. It seems to be much the same here in New Zealand. I've got a few 40K models than haven't seen a game in over 15 years that might be worth something these days. I just don't play 40K, so they might as well go. But for one reason or another, I can't seem to part with much else. I've got a massive amount of Epic that barely gets used, a heap of role playing games that haven't been played for nearly 20 years or more, and around 1,300 micro-armour tanks and APCs that get very scarce play these days. But do I want to I sell it? Nope! The wife tried suggesting I sell some stuff I didn't use anymore. I told her I'd wash her mouth out with soap if she ever uttered such nonsense like that again. I might have to see a psychiatrist about her - she's clearly insane!

I'm still in denial over 40k and although I know there won't be a good edition again I'm holding onto stuff out of misguided hope, I should sell before they do an AoS on 40k and the market gets even more flooded.

Same here, Last thing my gran bought for me (whell technically the thing I bought with the last money she gave me) is a mageknight frost dragon. Most of the mageknight is traded away now, except two big pieces and the dungeon crawl stuff, packed away in my closet. the Frost dragon? Still stands proudly in my display case in my room.

There are very few players in my area that play any GW products anymore. I'm going to use my 40K/fantasy Collection to improve my painting skills, which I will then use on some of my x-wing collection. I'll then keep the ones I like best, including my imperial knight and slowly sell off the rest (just in case there is a fully revised edition). X-wing is currently my equal favourite, with battletech, both collections currently growing.

IIRC that would be, depending on whether that Cluster consists of Binaries or Trinaries, somewhere around 35 to 45 mechs.

I started Btech in the early 90's we'd go to this comic shop in tampa coliseum of comics and buy a tone of blisters when we were on holiday.

So some i've had 20 years others are new because catalyst brought out the reprints and i got into it again, the net makes it much easier to find models

I started BattleTech when it was BattleDroids (before Lucas made them change the name due to the copyright of the "droid" name), and that was 1981 I believe. I have first run models along with a lot of the "Unseen". Unfortunately through all my moves being in the military a lot of my stuff got lost or damaged. I've started re-buying books and models lately from Catalyst and IWM.

I broke out my Federated Suns and Ghost Bears after picking up a copy of Alpha Strike. I highly recommend it for large battles. It strips things down so you can fight a Company vs. Company battle in about an hour or two (depending on mechs, terrain and how well the players know the rules).

Unfortunately I can't get many people around here to try it. "Oh, BattleTech. Yeah I used to play that way back when. It takes forever and I don't have that much time to play." Says the people who sit and play Magic for 8 - 10 hours at a stretch...

Alpha strike is very cool and alot quicker to play while using bigger forces, i can understand classic Btech putting some people off it's a bit daunting with all the tables.

Alpha strike is however really easy to get into and play.

I used to love battletech, had a few metal models and the edition that came with plastic 1/300 scale models (and citytech with the same!).

we started playing it on a proper table withouth hexs, it was really good.

we also made our own 1/300 scale sci fi support vehicles and armour by getting lots of cold war and WWII micro armour and changing the turrets so you've had like a t70 chassis with a tiny bradley turret on it. Or an f432 with the rocket pods from a hind gunship on the back. Painted in 'sci fi' colours they looked ace.

Even though 'scorpions' were crap i had a load of them as i loved the look. I did house kurita.

As for hanging on to stuff, my dad died when i was 19 and we'd played napoleonics for years. we both had *huge* armies of 20mm painted napoleonices (mainly plastics) and i carted them around with me in a box from house to house for *years* nd they just upset me everytime i tried to break them out to play a game (or planning to)

So i ended up keeping a few of the best painted ones for 'memories' and i threw the rest in the bin. It was a massive weight off me tbh and helped me move on a bit.

I have at least mech battalions for each house, and major Merc groups, a couple for periphery nations and one for a pirate band, and Clusters for a few Clans not counting the stuff I inherited from dad. Plus a few armored or battle armor companies. I also have full Inner Sphere, Star League, and Clan battlefleets. In fact including the pair I inherited from dad I actually own more Dante class Frigates then were built in the setting and it wouldn't surprise me if there weren't at least a couple of other Warship classes I could say the same for if I sat down and counted them. Plus a couple of mixed Aerospace Clusters and Battalions.

Book wise I own most of the techreadouts, many of the House, Clan and Merc group books plus almost all of the RPG books..h and I own every non-Dark Age Battletech related novel.

They found out black spray paint was the most cost effective to produce, sold the most and had high profit margins and therefore suggested GW focus on selling black spray paint... totally missing the reason said paint sells so well.But hey
