Scum List Help - Moralo and Escorts

By sablebadger, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm still pretty green at list building, so I was hoping for a little critique on this build:

Moralo and Escorts - 99 points

Moralo Eval - YV-666

- Heavy Laser Cannon

- Outlaw Tech

- K4 Security Droid

- Maneuvering Fins

Black Sun Ace x2 - Kihraxz Fighter

- Predator

My thinking is for Moralo I get the extra arc to fire with the HLC. I have Outlaw tech to help with focus token on a full stop, and K4 to get the Target lock. Giving a few options for re-rolling dice as needed.

The escorts just along for extra damage output, and Predator to give them a little reroll capability in addition to standard focus action.

Thoughts?

I'm also thinking about Mangler cannon to avoid the Donut...

What donut? The YV-666 doesn't lose its primary weapon when equipping a secondary, so you have 4 attack dice at all ranges. No reason to run anything but HLC on Moralo, really.

I think the list can work as is, but I can't help but feel that a pair of thugs w/ TLT & R4 would be more effective than the blacksun aces, which is a bit sad because I would love to see the blacksun aces have some kind of competitive role that wasn't edged out by other ships (and it just came out too)

D'oh! You're right. Thanks for catching that.

I thought about using TLT thugs but I really just wanted to fly the Kihraxz ships on the board. :) They look sweet.

Maybe I will bring both lists to X-wing night and see how the fare.

Maybe drop the Fins on the YV for Hot-Shot Blaster to help cover the blind spot?

Dropping the fins is a good idea because I didn't have a single instance tonight where they would have been useful.

However hotshot is 3 points and I only have 2 to spare after getting rid of the fins.

I won my balls tonight at the game store, and had a good time flying this list. He was flying imperial with a shuttle, tie bomber and tie punisher.

Now to find some thing useful for 1-2 points to fit into this list after ditching the fins. Might be Glitterstim.

Any suggestions?

Not doubting you in the least, just asking for a link!

Also I can't see why you wouldn't take the Hound's Tooth title for 6 points--it's a half-price(conditional) Z-95!

I'm going to try this against the lads this evening!

The YV-666's 180 degree arc is just begging for Tactician, that's a 2 point crew that has a passive effect so would probably be a good swap for Saboteur.

I was wondering about this. Just to make it explicit: it's written somewhere that Tactician's "inside your firing arc" verbiage is inclusive of auxiliary arcs? 'Cause that's flippin' sweet.

Yup, it's expicitly mentioned in the FAQ. The only difference between a primary firing arc and an auxiliary is that you can't shoot a secondary weapon out of an auxiliary. So if you were wondering, autothrusters and Backstabber don't trigger there either.

Haven't actually confirmed for myself that it's in the FAQ but this was good enough for me!

I played essentially the same list last night against a RAC and Soontir Fel list but I had the K4 Security Droid and Tactician. In that particular match-up I was reeeeeally glad to have the K4 and Tactician - Rebel Captive on RAC kept Moralo stressed for basically the entire game until I destroyed him, so having the dice modification without having to take an action was huge. Once RAC was gone, I really appreciated having the Tactician because although it only activated once or twice against Soontir, it was critical for keeping his arc-dodging shenanigans under control. Turns out that 180-degree firing arc is NOT as a big as as it seems on paper. Of course, this is all very context-specific so YMMV.

In the FAQ, it states that the Auxiliary Arc counts as an arc for everything that mentions one (Tactician, Backstabber, Outmaneuver, Autothrusters, and whatnot), just not one that can fire secondary weapons.

I'm going to give this list a try in a friendly escalating series tonight.

Should I trade the stims for engine on 666?

I like predator but hard to get until 100pts. We can't change pilots or swap upgrades. Any suggestions?

Sorry for double post but thought I'd report on my escalating games as mentioned above.

Won all three matches.

My opponent ran:

25pts

2x Academies

50pts

2x Academies

Lt. Cozet? (PS3 advanced) with Adv. Targeting Computer

100pts

3x Academies

Lt. Cozet: ATC

Zeta Leader: PTL, Weapon Guidance

FO TIE: weapon guidance

While my friend is a good swarm player, things did not work out in his favor. Crackshot is incredible. It often allowed me to knock TIEs out in one shot when firing a range 1. Stims came in handy though it is easy to trigger them at the start of combat.

Eval worked beautifully. Native 0 was great and his crew all did their jobs. Double stressed the PTL Zeta leader, double modify 4 dice attacks, and resisting blocks (K4 free TL).

My 3 ships simply outgunned the TIEs all night. I felt a little bad.

I think this setup has teeth and can handle lots of list types. Crackshot can help against Han or help finish a tough-nut interceptor. Tactician can shutdown PLT and keep enemy in Eval's kill zone. Stims can get you through a crucial turn and weather some TLT fire.

Overall this list is fun and heavy hitting. Doesn't have any post-dial movement or high PS but viable.

So do you feel like EU wasn't needed, then? That's kinda been my thought, at least with Eval and HLC - often I want to slow-roll rather than charge in, and the 180-degree arc makes minor repositioning less of an issue. EU might get me into range 2 to trigger Tactician a little more often but so far I've felt like Tactician was an added bonus rather than a critical element in my success.

I agree. EU would add little in this circumstances. You want to move as little as possible from the corner.
