Edge of Darkness OOC

By ColonelCommissar, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

All the Rebels are aware that the cell has a high-level prisoner, but as an officer, and one in Intelligence at that, you are aware of his status as a former Rebel captain and the cell's former commander.

in that case I'd be seeing if I had access to his file to see what's in it and then I'll have to go see if I can interrogate him. Well ... file reading while eating breakfast then plotting out a little Q&A. And also any after action reports on his betrayal if they've been filed yet. Understandably I doubt anyones written one yet but it doesn't hurt to gather what info you can before going in.

Can I suggest that you gather the whole team if you want to go for an interrogation? It would make my life a lot easier.

I think we may be waiting for a morning briefing and team assignments first.

Right, I'll get on that right away.

Awwww Braxus doesn't like me :( But I haven't done anything!! ..... Yet.

Can I get a quick run down of what happened with the capt. I'm pretty sure it was recapped somewhere but I'm having trouble locating where I recall reading the recap.

He was just too drunk to appreciate the piano last night. Or a piano fell on his mum and so hates pianos.

Maybe he doesn't like music from Robotech.

Essentially what you know is that the main cell was attacked in an ambush, and he subsequently took over in command. He ordered an attack on a bridge on the assumption that it was a military target, though it turned out to be a civilian target, thus making it effectively - in Imperial propaganda's eyes at least - a terrorist attack, which is strictly forbidden by Alliance High Command. Attempts to have him surrender command led to a major fight at the cell's old warehouse base, which further escalated after Imperial forces arrived. He was knocked unconscious in a fight with your squad and carried out, and then brought to this village.

By the by, Braxus is a Bothan, not a Dressellian as you put dtdunn

Thanks, I did a search for his name, but somehow mis-identified him as a dresellian. Updated post.

Not a problem. Easy (D) Mechanics check to construct a portable heater (I'm counting it as a 'Simple Tool')

Are we playing a 'work it out among ourselves' style team structure or do we have a leadership structure within the team? Either way is fine with the droid. I was for now going to default to Lt. Atala being 'in-charge' of his day to day reporting/duties generally (due to their history) but he will follow any legal/moral command from the team.

I bring this up due to the differing opinions on how aggressive the 'interview' of the prisoner should be, and if the time should be taken to make the heater.

As a player I recommend going in without these effects at first, then add later if needed for any needed 'boosts' to our follow up checks. The only direct help that N97 might be in the interrogation is the use of his Multi-Goo gun built into his arm. It has Ensnare 4, so prisoner could be 'pushed' into wall, plat him up there with the goo so he is helpless and perhaps more likely to take us seriously. (Multi-Goo Gun: 5dam ShortRange Crit:5 Enc5 200cr HP1 R3 Ensnare4, Burn2, Knockdown, Disorient1. +1Adv. to Mechanics checks on Droids, vehicles or ships. GM may use 2 Threat or 1 Despair to make item run out of ammo/cartridges. Replacement is 20cr and takes Action. Mods: 2x Disorient. SM:45)

I am going to play N97 as a non-command specialist. He has increased access to data / intel as one with a mid-level command rank, but does not have a command rank ability (partly due to being a droid, but partly by his choice). This goes along with his years and years of service. Sort of an R2D2 type position in the movies. Trusted, but ignored most of the time. Cnl: let me know if you recommend a different approach to the droid.

Although Liaka has the rank of a Lieutenant this is still a RPG, and I would be uncomfortable directing others outright. I think the Rebel Alliance is a bit different from a normal military, so that in a small group we would simply discuss the course of action and go with the majority.

That said, she might shout out some "orders" during combat, think of them as suggestions that can get you extra maneuvers or similar ;)

I think a reasonably democratic party structure is the best way forward. That seems like a good way to handle the droid to me.

I don't mind taking orders from a higher ranked PC. I wouldn't be playing an officer after all if I had an issue with chain of command. :P

Let's just keep this democratic and fun. It's not a good model for a RPG to have one player make all the calls. ;)

I thought a little shake up in the morning would be a good use of the triumph. Also having the building suddenly power down may add dramatic effect to our interrogation. Spend triumph to find a device in the power panel that should not be there, and perhaps with power fluctuations we could get a boost to the interrogations first roll? Perhaps the other advantages would be used to have the town look favorably on us for finding a clue to a possible traitor in the town? Just ideas. The significance/importance (or lack thereof) I will leave up to the Cnl, but I thought it would be fun. Rebels can be too careful about security.

Mechanics electric panel: 1eA+3eP+1eB+2eD 2 successes, 4 advantage, 1 Triumph

Well it's funny you should find something...

Formidable Mechanics check of Hard Knowledge (Underworld) check to determine the provenance of the device. You can have a Boost on the first check during the interrogation (one advantage) and get a floating ability upgrade (three advantages).

Know-Underworld - black box: 4eA+3eD 1 success, 4 threat

So he knows what it is, but also has some questionable additional info on it?

The device is definitely not of Imperial origin, of that you can be certain - rather, it appears to belong to the Black Sun...

I'm away for this weekend, sorry everyone. Keep up the conversation - I'm loving this character interaction - and I'll push things on on Monday afternoon.

I'm all for that, I just never had a problem taking IC orders from fellow players in settings where it made sense. I've had a game or two where this works out just fine but it's whatever the group wants to do.

Also Kixue will examine the box too. Looks like he can identify it but sadly also rolled some threats. Hmmmm would it be possible to recall or look up (using files he keeps on his data pad of course) reports on Black Sun operations in that area? A Know Underworld check I imagine.

Know: Underworld Check to Examine Black Box: 3eA+3eD 3 successes, 2 threat

You realise that it is not, in fact a Black Sun device, but are unsure as to who produced it or what it does. It's a Hard (DDD) Mechanics or Knowledge (U) check to determine what it does, with a Setback due to threat.

Alright going to edit my post to reflect the new info :)

Sorry, I am confused. What did our first check on the device determine? Does N97 need to do another knowledge underworld check since his first one was successful?

As I understand it the 4 threat meant that you mis identified the the device.

But I got 3 success myself and I can't even properly identify it. So the next set of checks (either Mechanics or Know U) would be to figure out what it does. Though with a set back dice I'm debating if Kixue could even figure out what it does. I'll probably decide to roll tomorrow and I think the others are waiting till the final matter is resolved before posting their own responses.
