Edge of Darkness OOC

Military intelligence? Surely an oxymoron, no? :P

I would think Tactician is by far the most viable as a second career since the others focus on areas quite far off from what we have been focusing on in the campaign so far. If you continue drawing the parallel between DS9, we would be a strike-team of red-shirts (well, gold, but you get the point), and not the bridge crew. Our group was initially sent to the planet as a small tactical group. As such we are more involved with tactical planning than strategic.

Hello everyone, I will be playing a droid character, a mechanic. I put his character sheet here. As typical for the rebellion they get equipment wherever they can, and he is a relic. Created 800+ years ago (approx, he has been through a lot, many memory wipes, damage, repair, updates, etc), he has been in and out of service to the Republic until his owner, a Jedi Artisan owned him through the clone wars. Now out of storage-mode he has been assigned to the cell on Arkos II.

He is a bit quirky and atypical for a droid due to his age, but maintains traditional 'droids are owned' mentality.

His code name in the field is "The Butler", but many call him "The Can" due to his resting shape. His designation is N97.

Welcome on board!

So I'll be bringing in a character. I'm thinking military intelligence type character ... I was thinking along the lines of gathering intel for the purpose of battles and troop movement.

There is also the Analyst career from Lead by Example.

I hadn't considered Analyst. Also it's in the Diplomat book :P. It does seem to have the research based talents that I found appealing in Strategist.

Hmmmm so the choice may be between Tactician and Analyst.

I'm actually playing an Analyst in another game. Good fun! She has a bit of slicing, some Face-skills and a lot of knowledge skills.

So as I'm fleshing out my concept can i get an idea of what others are playing? I know a Cunning or Presence based concept would be useful. I think I'll have the Cunning aspect covered with going the spy/military intel route. But still I'd like to make sure he fits in well with the team.

We have:

  • Geoff Hanson, Human Colonist Doctor
  • Oro Longray - Zabrak Soldier Commando
  • Liaka Atala - Twi'lek Commander Squadron Leader
  • N97 The Butler - Droid Engineer Mechanic

So we have a medical specialist, a close combat specialist, a piloting and command specialist and a mechanical and computer specialist.

Cunning and Presence are the attributes we're really lacking, so anything that furthers them would be good. But ultimately make what you want to play.

Also, sorry for the delay here. Part of it was the unforeseen changeover, but I'm also operating with a phone and a very ropey internet connection for another week or so, so I'm afraid I shan't be the best PbP GM out there for a bit.

Liaka brings some Presence, but we sorely lack cunning.

No worries about the delay, the new players seem to need a bit of time anyway.

Take your time. It gives me plenty of time to work on my sheet.

Well then I can fill in the Cunning part. Since the starting Career will be a Sentinel Shadow and Cunning is their trait of choice it won't be that big of a problem to be the Cunning guy. And I think Cunning may work well for putting spy data to good use.

The basics for my character Ensign Kixue Nomen

Let me know what you guys think.

Oh and a nifty call sign ..... that would be nice too. I could come up with one but I figure I'd field ideas.

Looks pretty good. I'm not sure it is worth it spending all those XP on a new specialization this early, but if that's what it takes to make the character concept work for you then that's what you have to do.

Yeah it is a lot, but what I wanted to do was to be able to take advantage of having more Knowledge Skills to work with and spending my first amount of xp on some of the early Analyst talents that I think may be more useful to the group than me just purely being able to sneak around.I guess I picture it easier coming up with 10 or so xp to buy more talents or raise a skill than I do 30 xp to transition into Analyst.

Overall I think the ability to switch between the two careers as needed will be fun and maybe a slight boon. And since I don't expect gaining a lightsabre anytime soon it will be sometime before I need to move into a third career. :)

That makes sense. Now you've just got to buy some gear, list up the talents and force powers etc. You still have time with CC off the grid for a few more days.

Yeah I've been considering what gear I want. I don't have a lot to spend so it likely won't be much. A good blaster, some armor and then I think some kind of equipment that might help with slicing. I just need a bit of time to go through my books. Weekends are when I'm at my busiest from work so I imagine Monday or Tuesday I'll have the free time to finish those details. I just wanted to make sure the main segments of the sheet were viable. Oh and to make sure his background worked.

In regards to equipment, any good suggestions?

As an aside I recently realized that there is a picture in Strongholds of Resistance of an Imperial officer that would make a great pic of Kixue's sister.

Let me know when you're ready to go, as I'll have an IC post ready when you are. If you tell me the page number I'm sure I could have a look.

To the others, sorry for the delay, but I'm back home on Wednesday morning and I'll definitely pick things up from there.

I'll do equipment tonight so that it'll be ready by morning :)

Looking over gear I have a question, what exactly does slicing gear allow me to do? The description doesn't seem to provide a benefit so is it a needed piece of equipment for what I want to do?

It falls into the type of gear that is necessary to do slicing (without a huge penalty, such as multiple upgrades to difficulty). See EotE core book page 171 on the side bar. Using a computer just needs access, slicing (getting past security) needs slicing gear.

Aaaah ok, I was looking in AoR and trying to see what I needed. I'll look in EotE instead.

Equipment and everything bought I think that covers it all. Unless I missed something ...

Very good. And since CC is supposedly back home today we should be about to get the ball rolling.

New players, you've got a chance to introduce your characters, but I'll move things along if I feel the IC discussion to be slackening.

Will get a post up in the morning. Have we had any orders yet, or are we new folks unaware of the fact that we will be part of the same team soon?
