Edge of Darkness OOC

By ColonelCommissar, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

And the sixth (ImperialSpy) no longer seems interested even in letting us know where he stands. Otherwise, that's a fair assessment. I'm willing to carry on, but at the end of the day I can't have a game with myself, though I am willing to accept it if anybody wishes to drop out.

Maybe this would be a good time to close the episode?

Start the next "session" at a new staging area or base and give people who want to change characters a chance to enter the scene.

That sounds like a good idea. It would allow the characters of people not interested in continuing to drop out and possibly new players a good spot to join?

That's a good idea. I'll wrap up and move things along, but I'd appreciate it if you could let me know first who wants to make a change.

Will you be looking for new players as replacement for those not willing to continue?

I think I would like to continue playing Rax. The group needs a good pilot and I don't have the time to create a new character right now. Besides, it's good for me to play a character that's a little different from what I usually do!

It would depend on the numbers. Part of me is tempted to move forward with a smaller group who I know are going to keep up posting.

Small can be good. As long as we have a decent spread in areas of expertise.

If a pilot becomes less needed than a character with a different skillset I can swap out Rax for something else. Just let me know.

I think for now Rax is still going to be useful, though if you want a change then you can make one.

Him and Titchfender, to be precise. I had included you in the second part. So, unless Titch contacted you privately, we are down two of six current players. Which is too bad for a PbP of any significant length.

I think that is somewhat why I was dragging my feet. Biggest was to get the wounded healed up first then decide the captain's fate.

Really depends on the replacements and their characters. Otherwise, I'd be ok.

If I decide to stick around, it'll mostly be using the experience to update my character.

Also, unless I am mistaken, Rax is a good base for you to build off of. He's a specialist that is slowly being turned into a multiple specialist.

Can't blame you there, especially with history backing you up.

This is Star Wars, which means we will need an excellent pilot.

Personally, it seems like the pilot and combat monkeys are sticking around, which is awesome. It is the Social/Skill monkeys that are leaving or considering to leave that is an issue in my mind.

@ CC: Just curious, could you talk to each of us in private about our thoughts on the characters, players, and the campaign?

@Everyone else: How do you guys feel about having a critique of each other's characters, play styles, and the campaign?

If I overstepped any boundaries, my apologies for doing so.

I'll PM on the matter of the campaign going forward. I'm open to cooperation, but so long as you guys are willing to keep posting (regularly) I'm willing to cooperate. I'm not sure about discussion on players - let's not get personal, I've seen that drive a perfectly good PbP apart - but talking on characters, setting and direction for the adventure going forward is all fair game.

I'll PM ImperialSpy and Titchfender to see if that elicits a response, but if not we may need to talk about moving on. While in most Star Wars games the ability to use non-class skills relatively easy is useful, here we've got one high Intelligence character and three high Brawn/Agility characters, so we might need a little but of variance. That said, you guys will soon have some experience to play with, which should help there.

Understood. I'm just open to critiques of my playstyle, at least.

I just received your PM but haven't looked at it yet.

The biggest situation I am seeing is that we are extremely specialized for the group. Which wouldn't be so bad if it kept to a military-style campaign. The problem, though, is that it changed from being straight forward military to a political/espionage based campaign, especially with social encounters. That is one point that I believe should be made public.

If I may interject, I hope you will not choose to end this story(?). I have really enjoyed reading it and learning how to interpret the die rolls. Especially the chase scene and the traitor twist.

Sorry for the interruption;

We're working on moving things forward as it stands. Rest assured, there will hopefully be a continuance.

That's good to hear. This is probably the best reason why I would like to see FFG expand the online campaign, in order to gain use out of players and GMs here.

Any other moments you enjoyed? Were there any you didn't care for?

This your groups story and your groups interests. You are not getting paid to entertain me, so do what interests you and your group. If I lose interest, I will stop reading, as long as you guys are having fun that is all that matters.

After this post I will return to being a reader and quit interjecting myself in your story.

Thanks,

Well that seems like a good place to leave Episode III, The Night of the Long Vibroblades. In the first instance, congratulations! You all earn 15 XP and 10 Duty, except for Rax who gets 5. Sorry, but their Duties all matched what occured in the adventure. There's roughly a week now between where we left off and where we will pick up, so if you want to spend big on a major advance feel free. Remember that you may still have the 5 XP bonus as a TFA celebration. Cooperate on how you want to go forward, and we can move on all the faster. Further congratulations, as you passed a Contribution rank. Duty has been redistributed accordingly, and you can claim a free item of Rarity 4 or less.

Two items of housekeeping:

  1. After each post, could you mark in your character colour who you are waiting to hear back from. Even if it seems obvious who you're waiting for to you, it helps everyone else to no end.
  2. As I haven't heard from them in a long time, I'm sadly benching ImperialSpy and TitchFender. We'll carry on with the gang of four for the moment, unless anyone applies who can guarantee that they will keep up a decent posting rate.

And to Epsilon-Minus, thankyou for the feedback. It means a lot to know people are enjoying it.

I had 15 xp banked so 30 in total. Taking one rank of Grit, and one of Second Chances (both 10 xp). And since we did a whole lot of shooting I bought a second rank in ranged (light) for the last 10 xp.

Would Tookur be willing to assist Rax in trying to mod his pistol? No, wait, let me rephrase that. Would Tookur be willing to mod the pistol with assistance from Rax? Assuming we can scrounge up the parts, that is. The Blaster Actuating module has something like four possible mods (and I know we wouldn't get that many even on a good day) and the Set Trigger has one. I could make what ever rolls we have parts to try, and send to you to avoid cluttering up the forum. Assuming we have any parts at all, which might not be the case

And just to be on the safe side, I'm currently waiting to hear from the GM. I don't know what Rax's color is. Can I just pick one?

You can try, using Tookur's pool of PPPA, to make a single modification. I assume you'll be using Unskilled Assistance. It costs the usual 100 credits, and is a Hard check, so the total pool is PPPABDDD.

I like the choice of colour, by the way.

Hm. Coming to think of it, when I took over Rax he had 0 listed credits, and I suppose he hasn't pocketed any from the start of the game. Apparently he spent every single credit on his equipment.

Has the group come across any loot liberated resources from which Rax could request the measly sum of 100 credits?

Currently waiting on the GM or any player with the pertinent information.

A while back you took some Imperial blaster rifles as loot. I believe you still have one or two left spare in the Brick, if you want to cash it in to the Alliance.

Works for me, unless someone needs a spare blaster rifle? I could trade one for the parts I need to try to mod one of the attachments once.

Waiting on any other PC to comment on spending "group loot".

I feel the rifle being used to Mod your equipment is cool.

.... cause I am going to want the same for Toco. ;)

I want to Mod his Forearm Grip if possible.

I took Load Bearing gear for his Contribution reward.

And I purchased Lethal Blows for 10xp, banking the last 5 for later.

How is this colour for Toco?

Waiting for ColComm for Mod adjudication.

I don't mind selling stuff for credits and upgrades and whatnot.

Back to the story.. what the heck do we do with Zavvel?

One set of load-bearing gear coming right up. Do you want that in drab grey or drab green?

The mod you can make, if you have the creds for it. Same dice pool as before.

Any discussion of a certain Weequay's fate can be made here, and I'll assume it was said while you were on the inter-scene march.

Well, Rax is not interested in pulling the trigger, and although he has a quick temper he is also quick to calm down. And in the calm light of day, deciding that the man (weequay) should be executed seems far above his pay grade. That said, we can't very well let him go, and taking a prisoner with us who could betray the group at a moment's notice sounds terrible.

I guess Rax would be OK with someone else making the decision to get Zavvel six feet under, but he wouldn't want to chime in much...

Out of curiosity, since I havent played much rebel-stuff. What is this contribution rank you refer to Tear44?
