The idea of the undying Xizor

By FlightyBombJack, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just was talking with a friend and we suddenly realized that Xizor could become a big pain to kill once the illicit cloak comes out.

Imagine this:

Xizor (transfer damage to someone else)

Determination

Virago

Sensor Jammer

Stealth Device

Cloaking Device

So you got a 3 agility viper that can force someone to take damage for him, with an extra dice from stealth, and 2 more from the cloak, and one hit turning into a focus every round. Put a body guard equipped Serissu next to him and 3 Z-95s and oh jeez. 8 evade dice at range 3 with the body guard, one ignored hit, and one hit turning into a focus, and a reroll on defense.

First of all, Bodyguard only helps someone with a higher PS; Serissu is 8, Xizor only 7, so you'd need Veteran Instincts instead of Determination. Secondly, all of those defensive abilities don't do anything if noone attacks him, and his offense isn't impressive enough to need to be targeted. Kill Serissu, then the Zs. Every round he's cloaked is one he doesn't shoot, and there's a chance it falls off. He's still a half-decent finisher, but that's a lot of points to put into abilities that will only trigger when your opponent does exactly what you want them to (Xizor, Cloaking Device, Serissu, Bodyguard).

It is less a legit play option and more troll-like than anything else honestly.

Ya dun goofed, son

(thrusters)

Also if Xizor is passing off damage he is considered "hit" so you lose Stealth. - at least I'm pretty sure you do anyway.

If he's cloaked I'm not wasting my shots on him, unless it's my only shot, or a really strong shot. He can't hurt me that round, so might as well work on his escorts.

The more he's cloaked, the less he's hurting me. Once his escorts are gone he's forced to come out of cloak to fight, and also can't pass off damage anymore.

That moment you face feedbacked Z95's

VI > Determination. Better for dodging, and therefore not being shot at all, rather than discarding shots.

I feel like traditional Xizor + 5 Binayre meatshield is more(?) undying and trolly while also being somewhat viable.

Undying xizor is a thing but just shy of real awesomeness. When flown right you make your opponent play the game a certain way and kinda end up letting dice decide the first third, skill the middle third, and list match up the final.

If the dice are average and you're flying well then Xizor and a Z make it to end game where either you just outfly the opponent completely and win, they chose a bad list and you fly circles around them with the starviper's various shenanigans or they out PS you and Xizor is suddenly a really expensive 25pt ship.

I love the idea of it, I just can't get over the hump with it.
