Summer Tournament 2015 in Bloomington IL

By Red G, in X-Wing Battle Reports

We got 9 players at the Summer tourney in the BloNo area at Red Raccoon Games. I decided to go with:

Syndicate Thug w/ Ion Cannon Turret + R4 Agromech + BTL-A4 Y-wing x2

Palob Godalhi w/ Recon Specialist + Blaster Turret + Moldy Crow

N'dru Suhlak w/ Lone Wolf + Inertial Dampeners

My strategy was to keep my Y-wings and Palob in a group, flanking with N'Dru (obviously). Warthog Y-wings are incredibly strong, providing the attack of two ships for the price of one. I picked the 3 smallest asteroids since none of my ships are very mobile.

Surprisingly, no one brought any of the top metagame lists. No dual IGs, no falcons, decimators, or YT-2400s. A lot of people were trying out wave 7 builds, which were really fun to play against for the first time.

Round 1 VS Chance

Warden Squadron Pilot w/ Conner Net + Adv. SLAM + Cluster Mines + Extra Munitions x2

Binyare Pilot w/ Ion Pulse Missiles x2

This was a really fun game, because those K-wings laid down a TON of mines. All of my ships hit something on occasion, and all were damaged by the end of the game. However, with SLAM removing the K-wings' attacks, Chance just didn't have enough firepower to compete with my warthog Y-wings. I ended up winning with all of my ships intact, but with all my shields gone and a few damage cards on N'Dru and a Y-wing.

Round 2 VS Wayne

Redline w/ Seismic Charges x2 + Cluster Missiles x2 + Hull Upgrade + Sensor Jammer + Extra Munitions

Rexlar Brath w/ Marksmanship + Ion Cannon + Prockets + Hull Upgrade

There's not a whole lot to say for this game; my dice were absolutely brutal in one crucial round in which N'Dru and a Y-wing killed a previously full health Rexlar (Rexlar rolled 0 evades that round and didn't have a focus token). After that, it was an easy clean-up, though I lost N'Dru at some point.

Final Round VS Andrew

Syndicate Thug w/ Twin Laser Turret x2

Moralo Eval w/ Engine Upgrade + Intelligence Agent + K4 Droid + Outlaw Tech + HLC + Inertial Dampeners

This was the list I hoped to play against. I wanted to bring a Hound's Tooth with my Warthogs, but didn't get around to buying one before the tournament. Andrew started off ahead, using his TLTs to knock some of my shields down. My Y-wings and Palob initially focused on Andrew's closest Y-wing to get it ioned onto an asteroid. N'Dru was firing at Moralo. At this point we were notified the store was closing in 25 minutes, so I readjusted my strategy into taking Moralo down before time ran out. Andrew's Y-wing took down N'Dru, but my ships managed to heavily wound Moralo, and by next round it was destroyed. Next, both of us lost a Y-wing, so it was my Warthog & Palob VS a shieldless TLT Y-wing. Andrew flew it really well and knocked Palob down to 1 hull, but Palob managed to destroy the opposing Y-wing first. As I write this, I realize that Andrew never used his Intelligence Agent this game. I forgot it was there; perhaps it would have made a difference had he used it.

As the only undefeated player, I ended up winning. Wayne and Andrew ended up in second and third; I'm not sure who got which place, it came down to Margin of Victory points. It was a fun tournament and it was cool to face all the Wave 7 ships: one new ship in each game I played!
