There was a build at the Plano Regionals that used 7 z-95s with deadman switches. He finished 36th out of 115. So if you are saying the deadman switch isn't competitive, I would argue that it could be.

If you are saying to put them together, you cannot ( unless Deadman is on the Hounds tooth and you want it to blow like that). Now if that is the case, make sure you do like a 3 or 4 away.

An interesting thing would be if a ship is following close and is low and your hounds tooth will die, fly the tooth off the board in the range one. Ruling states that the ship will explode, and fly the pup then behind dealing that one damage to the pursuer and flying off.
