Hypothetical TLT, Turret nerf

By Evenflow30, in X-Wing

So I know the new thing everyone's worried about is a squad of ships equiped with TLT, so I was just thinking of a hypothetical, imaginary, whatever word you wanna use counter to this type of build and thought maybe FFG should do something like this:

EPT, 3 pts

Blind Vengeance: after defending against an attack outside the attackers primary firing arc roll 1 (red) dice: on a (crit) the defender suffers one damage.

Yes? No? Too strong? Too weak? Too corny? Not good as EPT?

As you've written it, you're suggesting that the defender can roll to take an additional extra damage? Yeah, that'd counter turrets for sure...

I don't understand wave 7 has been out a month and we need a nerf? Wasn't the slam nerf enough this week?

The sky has been falling for some time, you know. Weeks, even.

Hey, I roll with 4 ys with TLT so u will get no complaining from me about them...I just threw this out there cuz it seems 70% of the forum either thinks TLT is unbeatable or at least thinks that. I've never lost with the aforementioned build but I've ran it only 3 times.... Maybe instead of my "nerf" the better question would have been for those that have either played with or gone against TLT do you think it needs a nerf?

What SLAM nerf? Having to take a stress when you pull a hard 2 while you have the crit that makes all hard turns red? I don't think that's a common enough situation to really consider it a nerf.

I think you meant to say, the attack suffers one damage.

I believe he is referring to the email from the dev that discounted what a previous article had said about SLAMming and bombing.

That your second maneuver in a SLAM does not count as revealing a maneuver dial therefore not allowing you to drop activation dial bombs (seismic charge, ion bombs, etc) mid SLAM.

Ahh, I guess I did word that funny, I apologize for that. I meant the ship attacking with TLT suffers the damage!

too heavy, I'd say. I'm happy to see how this wave plays out myself, before any nerf-cries leave my throat! I'm really excited to see the pwts out turreted, and the return of low-ps viability, and what kind of lists that feeds into encouraging...

That's not a nerf. K-Wings were never able to drop bombs that drop when dials were revealed when using SLAM. That was just people assuming that just because something showed up in an article that it was correct.

Regardless, I believe that is what he was referring to.

True, except they typically revise articles when mistakes are found, and this article was never corrected to reflect that you can't drop a bomb when you slam.

"Also, because your SLAM counts as a full maneuver, it allows you to drop your Proton Bombs in the middle of your activation, right before you execute your SLAM."

What you've written would apply to any ship with a PWT, or Upgrade turret, along with Nera, and every secondary weapon on the Raider and Corvette. So, no. No way.

Gee. I came to this thread as a getaway from the 9-page slugfest on that topic. :-/

That just sounds like whoever wrote that article was not talking to the person that had written the new rule book that makes it very clear that it doesn't work that way.

Using an EPT slot for an effect that only triggers if my opponent brings a certain list seems like a bad idea.

More than that: ships that can reliably get out of opponent's primary arc have a nice buff already, in form of autothrusters.

In the current meta- and most previous metas, the biggest difficulties have been experienced by jousters- ships who primarily fight by doing a strafing run and then K-turning around to attack again. Only Z-95s, TIE/ln, and TIE Advanceds do an adequate job at that currently. Your card doesn't seem to help them.

I'm not sure what you see as a problem _is_ a problem, and if it is, I'm not sure you've found a solution that works for the ships for which it is a problem.

None of which is to say that your card is a bad idea- it isn't!- but one of the cool things about theorycrafting is the way it helps us understand the toys better.

So: how can we make a card that helps jousters against TLT without making arxdodgers too strong or nerfing Turrets too hard- that's still useful when against lists without a turret?

Dang, you could make a thread right now about what are peoples favorite color is and it will turn into a 50+ page argument about the slam action correction! I only run rebel squads and hey, I get it it was silly to highlight something in an article that the k-wing can't do, but I have faith that people in this forum can still make viable k wing builds! All this talk about selling off your k wings now is just silly.

Also big props to slugrage, even though u hate my idea you stayed on topic! Lol!

TLT has already been nerfed

the nerf is called Poe Dameron with thrusters

PWTs have already been nerfed

the nerf is called Twin Laser Turret

so the cycle begins anew...

SLAM nerf....not until a FAQ comes out with it. Just because someone posted a email that is an answer to a question they asked and not a "Official" released ruling posted on FFGs site for download doesn't make it what has to be done now.

This is currently legal : swx33_card_ref_04.png

It states choose and execute a maneuver of the ships dial...so a bomb can currently be dropped before a SLAM. So until a FAQ says otherwise...I don't care about anything else saying different.

Last night I beat a Dash (Mangler)/Miranda (TLT) list with essentially just Soontir Fel (Chiraneau died way too easily). I flew my ass off, but I did it. What's the problem?

The rules say that executing a maneuver and revealing a dial are two separate things. Nowhere on the SLAM card does it instruct you to also reveal a maneuver.

The card tells you to select a maneuver from your dial that is the same speed as the maneuver that you executed this round. It tells you to execute the maneuver that you selected.

You sir, are very good with counter builds. I'm sure a million other people already thought of poe w/ thrusters against TLT, but I heard u say it first so props to you. I will try poe in a build to see how that works.

Flying against a single TLT isn't difficult, against 3 or 4 is more what I was talking about

So until a FAQ says otherwise...I don't care about anything else saying different.
