Is SW:TOR canonical?

By SFC Snuffy, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Just curious, since the Star Wars: The Old Republic (SW:TOR) MMO is an existing license, is anything in it considered canon? I wouldn't necessarily expect the game storyline to be canon - no Hero of Tython, for example - but the game also contains a lot of references to the early history of the Galactic Republic and previous civilizations.

For example, the Infinite Empire, the destruction of Taris, the Gree, the Krath cult, the Force Wars, the Great Hunt, Revan, the Jedi Exile, the taung, Battalions of Krell, Nomi Sunrider, Ulic Qel-Droma, etc. etc. are all given backstory through datacron entries and some in-game exposition or events. Is any of this still legit? Or is it all now "Legends?" What does this mean for other Star Wars games (JK I & II, KOTOR, etc.)

Nope. I read some article a while back that said it wasn't, but let's face it: almost nothing is canon anymore.

It is not canon. But it can be head-canon until Disney-approved contradictions pop up.

It is considered canon in the old Legends universe, but not by Disney, at least not yet. But nothing contradicts there new stuff, so there is still hope for all the cool stuff. Like Revan.

Yes its canonical, the only thing not canonical is the dlc.

It's not canon. And now that they are freed from needing to follow the story of the Star Wars galaxy, they can take the game in interesting new place, unimpeded by what has come before - or what might come after.

Its not canon, and i'm really grateful for that. KOTOR 1 and 2 were pretty darn good. But SWTOR felt like a poorly thought out mess, I didn't like hardly anything about that game. SWG had better visual elements and plot points imo.

SWTOR is considered Legends by the Story Group. It's one of the few things still producing new content for Legends.

Yeah but Legends doesn't equal non-canon.

Yeah but Legends doesn't equal non-canon.

According to Wookieepedia:

to non-canon "Legends" status

Hm. I've already seen a handful of posts by BKL saying "Legends doesn't equal non-canon,"

Sooo....maybe we should stop saying that...

According to Wookieepedia:

What is considered official canon?

Lucasfilm Ltd. identifies the six films of the original trilogy and prequel trilogy, and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series as the "immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align." The following list identifies what is now considered official canon. This section may require updating as Lucasfilm releases new updates.

The Star Wars original trilogy films—Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi

The Star Wars prequel trilogy films—Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith

The Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series and film

The Star Wars Rebels television series and its supplementary source material

Star Wars Insider fiction, beginning with "Blade Squadron" in Star Wars Insider 149

Information found in the StarWars.com Databank

Information previously found in the now-defunct StarWars.com Encyclopedia

All officially-licensed source material released following the September 2, 2014 novel A New Dawn. Please see below for specific exceptions.

Are any elements of the Expanded Universe still canon?

Although the Expanded Universe has been relegated to non-canon "Legends" status, Lucasfilm considers all Expanded Universe material to be a "resource" of information that any author may freely draw upon for "new canon" stories. In the event an Expanded Universe subject appears or is mentioned in a new canon story, that subject becomes official canon once again. However, that does not necessarily mean that the subject's entire previous Expanded Universe history regains canon status. Wookieepedia contributors must take care to treat as canon only elements of a subject presented within the confines of new canon source material.

Yeah thats Wookieepedias idea of what canon is, its incorrect, did you see all their logs during the quote unquote "Announcement?" They are panicky and desperate to keep their website relevant and alive, and I guess if they have to lie to do so they will. They falsified a statement they claimed Jennifer Heddle made regarding canon, nor do they follow everything that has been posted about SW canon, hell they don't count anything FFG makes as canon, even when they have permission to make up their own ships to add to SW canon, just cause it references legends. Guess we can throw out everything new since it will reference legends since legends is secondary canon.

SWTOR is not canon, nor should anything the clowns at Bioware touch or control be allowed to be considered canon... Don't like Wookiepedia, that's fine, I don't either... Go to starwars.com and do a databank search for "Revan", "Satele Shan", or "Darth Marr", guess what... Womp womp, no results... Because Disney doesn't recognize it... Do a search for Darth Bane and you'll find a result because he is canon, even though he originated in the book series...

Having problems with your canon, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems, but Legends ain't one... Also, saying something is canon over and over again doesn't make it any more true... Sorry for the bad news...

Once again, his view on canon is not a normal person's view. Trust me, the white bars are far less stressful.

Yeah SWTOR is not canon and never has been. They even asked someone on the story group about that point blank and they dodged the question.

Frankly I fail to see why it would matter, the TOR games take place so far before ANH that canon or not doesn't really matter. Not like it would have any effect on the movies.

Oh and I agree with Sithborg about the white bars.

Legends is secondary canon and the games haven't been confirmed being Legends yet from what I have seen. If they are not labeled as Legends then they will be non-canon. Starwars.com is not really meant to be used as a primary source of data. They hacked most of their information away and expect people to use the source books they have sold to the public.

I am not having any problems with my canon, I will send you some information in a pm so you can see what I am talking about.

Oh and for food for thought. Mr. Spencer is working on KOTOR3 come out on the Xbox One, probably PS4 also, but you never know.
