Getting 2 cores today?

By vLabz, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi,

I wonder if getting 2 cores has still an interest today. I read a few threads about getting 2 core sets or not, but there were months ago, and some people were already regretting having bought 2 cores with more wave 1 ships being available.

I don't have anything, but I plan on getting 1 core set + the full wave 1.

Given that there are accessories available (dice and the manoeuver tool). And I may be able to create a range tool myself...

Wave 2 is also coming...

Today, do you still feel there is a need for getting 2 core sets ? I'd say no, but just to be sure.

Thanks for your answers...

I would say no for sure

Unless you need a 2nd damage deck, no.

ok, thanks for sharing!

Yea. In the beginning, 2 cores were amazing! If you plan on sharing or splitting a box get 2 cores. The only thing you can't get outside of the core is the Damage deck.

There are also specific upgrade cards that only come with the expansions. So while you'd receive 2 Victory Star Destroyers, you wouldn't get the cards that only come in the expansion (Warlord, Corrupter, Flight Controllers, etc).

Definitely go for expansions for the specific upgrade cards. The core set is good, but you'll be better off in the long run with expansions ;)

it's not confirmed by any means, but we're all terribly suspicious of single T-70 and Tie/fo expansions in the near future with new pilots and upgrades :)

so unless you got income to burn or are going to roll some crazy awesome 5 Tie/fo swarm (4 PTL Omegas, Ep Leader) or 3 T-70 squad (Poe w/PTL, bb-8, thrusters; Red vet w/Wired, R3-a2, thrusters; Red vet w/Predator, thrusters) imo you're better with only one core

and thus fickle flew into an asteroid field and died

You're in the Wrong Forums, dude :D

just pretend I was talking about VSDs, cR-90s, and Nebs... :(

except we know the upgrades to all those ships...and they're more than worth purchasing individually because of those upgrades :P

I don't think its worth it. In my opinion you are better off just buying the ships you want. And dice packs/range rulers. You really don't get enough in the core set to justify the price for two of them. To many doubles that are not usable

Ditto. Can't see any benefit in getting multiple core sets.

On the plus side, getting another Core set is a fast way to build 400-pt fleets especially if you're the one buying for your group. You will also have an extra maneuver tool and ruler which tend to wear out quickly. The big box will also help store most of your stuff when your first one becomes too stuffed.

@kite I'd rather just buy the loose ships, die, and movement tool. The cards are better in the single packs for the most part.

But yes, the storage is nice and does work. I used a stock box until this week: once you get above 2-3 fighter packs and more than 6-7 ships, it's just not enough to securely transport the models.

If you want 3 of each ship in the core, buy 2. It is cheaper to buy a core than it is to buy the 3 expansions plus the tool and the dice.

While cheaper getting 2 of each expansion gives you multiple copies of upgrades you would not normally have access to

I know Flight Controllers is only found in the VSD. That one is only useful if you plan to run anti-squadron squadrons, which I never do personally. And you would only need 2 if you were running 2 carrier ships to alternate activations.

If they didt a force awakens starter set with the finalizer and some other ship or a new starter set with the isd and the mon cal in i would go for it...

Which upgrades are only in the Nebulon B and CR90? I only bought 1 of each and cannot think of anything I wish I had another of. Perhaps the XX9 turbolasers? Really only useful if you are running multiple Nebs.

I bought 2 cores when I started and the second damage deck gets used a lot since I have probably taught about 5 or 6 people how to play during demos at my local gaming store. It was rather annoying having only a single VSD expansion since I wanted another Flight Controllers card. Fortunately I got lucky and managed to snag one on eBay for $3.

I assume you mean the card and not the whole expansion.

If that purchase was in the last 2 weeks or so you're welcome :)

Yes, just the single card.

Ah, Hulksmash if that was you thanks.
