Im not crazy about it either but I think in this case it would be alright. Droid Starfighters are only 3.5 meters long compared to the 12.5 meter X-Wing.

If it still kept the standard 90 degree arc and had a PS1 generic with 2, 2, 3, 0 stats.

S&V could get some really cool pilots/crew such as: Zam Wessell, Jango Fett, Embo, Aurra Sing and Cad Bane.

Jango and Boba potentially in one game is a bit much, even by the timeline stretching of x-wing. 2 of the YV pilots are straight from the clone wars, so I would not be surprised to see a few more show up where apropriate.

Galactic Republic aligns with Empire and then the separatists and other rag tags go with scum and villainy and resistance.

I think you greatly underestimate the number of people (xwing or not) who are STAR WARS fans. I very much doubt you run into many "prequel fans" or in a couple years "sequel fans". But I bet you'll meet more and more STAR WARS fans than self proclaimed "OT fans". That's not exactly Disney's core demographic.

ETA-2 interceptors fit in the empire perfectly: space superiority fighter with minimal shielding. Some aces could even be opposite factions... And I'd be fine with that.

ARC-170 would be excellent bombers with gunner/turrets...empires answer to the Kwing with some imperial only crew instead of slam.

Givinex (fan blade fighter) is a great scum ship. Looks awkward and has the same "only named" pilot structure as IGgies.

Vulture droids (big ones not small ones) even had Novel support as being used by outer rim authority as patrol Craft (and some went sentient and when space migrating). There are also numerous inconsistencies in their size where some are much larger (often in Walker Mode). Those would fit fine into the game.

Naboo fighter fits just fine within the rebels. I see no diluting there.

With the introduction of multi faction ships, multi faction pilots, and now sub-factions it's more likely now than ever to eventually happen. If it needs to happen pre-sequel or post when they run out of new ships is the only real question.
