Tech Adept and Machine Trait

By eltom13, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

When does a Tech-Adept gain the Machine Trait? Supposedly having the Mechanicus Implants Trait does not suffice. At least the description in the DH2 Core Rule book does not mention anything about the Machine Trait. Also in the Gear chapter of the same book, in the section about Cybernetics I couldn't find anything about the Machine Trait. On the other hand the Tech-Priest in the NPCs chapter and a Tech-Priest in the adventure have the Machine Trait.

So when would you grant it to a PC Tech Adept? And keep in mind that this Trait is very powerful! See fire and mind-psy.

DH1 had a special Elite Advance for this, where the Tech-Priest is basically turned into a full cyborg a la Robocop as the final stage of their "evolution" from flesh to machine. Perhaps it's something FFG will introduce with one of their upcoming supplements?

In Only War Hammer of the Emperor supplement there is a talent that gives the machine trait with the value of it based on the number of cybernetics you possess halved. Since Only War used the aptitude system as well its probably the best option at the moment.

I seem to remember that Black Crusade Hereteks could get "Mechanicus Assimilation" or something, to get the machine trait.

Is there no equivalent in Dark Heresy?

DH I, The Lathe Worlds, p.57: The Flash is Weak talent.

They removed the Flesh is Weak talent in an effort to eradicate the ability to buy implants with experience. Instead, Tech-Priests are just able to acquisition cybernetics easier than other acolytes, which is far better. NPCs have it because it's easier to do than listing all their cybernetics.

It was a talent in DH 1st ed, then a bionic in Black Crusade and then was a talent again in Only War. Seems like they can't decide what they want it to be. It may show up again sooner or later in an expansion in one form or another. It's really powerful though so they may choose not to put it in for balance or may be saving it for a tech priest related Elite advance talent.

There are also still talents related to bionics they just require you to buy the base bionic with influence then you can spend experience on the talents to modify their usefulness.

But anyway, anyone who wants to use it now the best way is probably to use the Only War The Flesh is Weak talent since it already has aptitudes assigned or use the mechanicus assimilation bionic from Black Crusade.

I see. Thank you all for your valuable comments!
