goodness, this is a good looking card. I wanted to include it on that merit alone. Anyone used it? I have now used it a grand total of 1 time. It was better than I expected it would be though. It combos with itself, which is nice, although I ended up adding Leave No Trace to my deck because that seems a natural combo. It's a pretty versatile card, which is good. Neutral, which is good. And Neutral option of threat reduction (that isn't Gandalf) which is good too.
Still, without cost reduction, it costs 5, the same as Gandalf. Gandalf can reduce threat by 5 (better than KaL) draw 3 cards (same as KaL), and he can also quest or fight on that turn to boot. But that cost reduction can be a thing...
Currently it has the perk since I share a CORE between 2 players, one player can run 3 Gandalf and the other 3 KaL. Not sure, think it's worth it?
Keen as Lances
I don't think I'd play it outside a victory display deck. In that deck, it's the card that pays for all the setup, by giving cheap draw and threat reduction once you get going.
Would be far better in multiplayer assuming at least one person is playing with some other victory display cards. Then everyone can use it to great effect. Solo feels like it really needs to go into a VD deck
Yes, in multi player, when even only one player plays a victory deck and all the other players also have Keen as lances in their decks, it can get pretty bonkers. Once it starts going, the card will hit the table left & right. Free stuff for everyone!
I've been running two in my Sp Merry/Rossiel/Sp Glordfindel Secrecy deck. It has really helped keep my hand full. I probably would not run it if I was not running Rossiel though.
I've been using it in a Rossiel/Beravor/Idraen deck, and I've found it great in that. Might be too expensive elsewhere, though.
I also like a lot the art on this card, but indeed it would be usefull only on a Rosiel deck
The thing is that after you get 2 locations in the victory pile, then Keen reduces it's cost by itself, it costs only 1 to play it. So you can keep 2 Leave no trace in your deck and play the first Keen for 1 ressource, and the other 2 for free. Or you play Leave no trace once, making Keen costing only 3, but if you have Grima hero in play, you reduce it to 2 and then play other Keen for very cheap.
It also helps if you placed another cards with no victory points in the pile with the sidequest Scout ahead.
In conclusion, with only 2 Leave no trace and 1 Scout ahead (only 3 cards), and with or without Rossiel, Keen becomes a bargain and the hell of a good card.
