I really want to know what the new ion cannon upgrade(s?) is. The slot is rather lacking compared to say, ACM, so if the new card is good it could shake up how some of the existing ships are used. One comes with the ISD, but it was not revealed, so i assume it will be covered in the MC-80 preview.
Which preview are you eager for?
MC80 for sure. I'm a dyed in the wool Imperial, but I cant say the Rebel ships and designs didn't have an effect on my when I was young.

The ships are nice, but I am hanging on to any bit of information regarding the upgrades.
I absolutely and unreservedly agree, Dusksong. Daala being 'only' an officer is just based on the trend with Isard and Wulff (though Motti is the odd one out there, I guess he was the Admiral though). I'll still admit, I thought we would see Piett as an admiral instead of Vader, and Ozzel instead of Needa (though like I said, I'm not unhappy about that).
I think you nailed my thoughts down as to regards to rebels, word for word.
Lando for the YT-1300 would make that expansion for me, hands down. As of right now, I'm not tremendously excited about the R&V set.
That could be true Purple Squadron, FFG has changed their tune somewhat.
"Whether you field your pre-painted miniature as a Raider I-class Corvette or Raider II-class Corvette, the Imperial Raider Expansion Pack offers you plenty of ways to customize it for battle with either squadrons or capital ships. Among its eight upgrade cards, you'll find Ordnance Experts, a new commander, Quad Laser Turrets, two unique titles, and more."-FFG, Here they Come!
compared to
"In addition to its pre-painted, small-base Raider miniature, this expansion introduces eight upgrade cards, a command dial, speed dial, and all requisite tokens."-FFG, current excerpt
I just hope the Here they Come article is accurate and we do see a new commander.
In the EU/Legends Pellaeon's first command in his Republic days was a small escort. And is it ever established exactly when he was assigned to Chimaera other then it being before Choices of One? Perhaps he was assigned to a Raider command at some point before his time on Chimaera or between stints on Chimaera. I imagine that retrofitting an Imperial-I class Star Destroyer into an Imperial-II class Star Destroyer so even if he was on Chimaera before the Raider was introduced perhaps he was assigned to a Raider while Chimaera was being upgraded.
Edited by DiabloAzulSeriously though... who's the Raider's commander? That might be my biggest question right now. We didn't get Piett with the ISD like I thought we might (we did get Needa, and I'm overjoyed about having mister-responsibility in my fleet) but who is left aside from him, Ozzel and Daalia?
The Raider comes with Ozzel (commander) and Piett (officer). This was spoiled a while back... only the ISD's officer wasn't known (only strongly suspected) until last week's preview.Seriously though... who's the Raider's commander? Whaaaat ? I'm convinced that the Raider will have a new Imperial Commander (like the MC30 has zombie lord), but Ozzel really ? I hope it will be something of flavour like :
"Your ships can come out of light-speed too close to the system and your opponent adds 2 shield on one hull zone of each ship. Then discard this card." Cost : -35
Actually I think I'm misremembering, because I can't seem to find the source of that. I think the fact that the X-Wing raider came with Ozzel and Needa made me/us assume the Armada raider would have the same cards, and the ISD would have Vader and Piett... and I've made a dog's breakfast of that in my silly head ![]()

I was just joking
They did put Captain Needa in and we all know how he ended up ![]()
Actually, I think that Piett could be the new Commander and Ozzel could be an officer which a fun mechanic to discard him. The former seems more competent to lead an attack, and I'd love to have a fleet led by Vader that executes Ozzel in battle ![]()
Hehe. I half-expected Vader's ability to let you discard an officer card to do something nasty ![]()

"YOU HAVE FAILED ME FOR THE LAST TIME.."
Could have been a rule similar to Abbadon in BFG. Getting nice rerolls for free, but should you fail that reroll he feeds your soul to his daemon sword force-chockes you to death to make his opinion on failure abundantly clear!
That would be kick ass ![]()
Back on topic, I really, really want to see what the MC80 has in store in termsof upgrade cards. With the leak of the ship cards, I want to see what we can do with that beast ![]()

Just try to take advantage of the double Broadsides (rather than a single one) and you'll be fine
Compared to the Assault Frig that can afford to shoot her front arc losing only one die compared to the side, if you shoot the MC80's front you're effectively losing half your firepower.

How many opponents have you faced that split their forces enough to allow you to double broadside?Just try to take advantage of the double Broadsides (rather than a single one) and you'll be fine

This is a very good question with the way the game is being played today.
Maybe it is also a more appropriate criticism of the MC80 - sure, it has a lot of dice - but arrayed in a way that is not really conducive to getting the most out of them. Again, this is only considering the way the game seems to be played today. The MC80 does have those massive side arcs and there will likely be situations with more ships on the table to create a target rich environment for it while charging down the middle. But even going back to the preview article that mentioned cruising boldly down the middle of the Imperial fleet, it just didn't seem to fit with how people are playing. I feel like all you'd need to do is create a small traffic jam. How is one supposed to keep a large base from getting blocked up like that travelling at speed 2? If it can be done to a guppy now, it can certainly be done to something with an even larger base. I wouldn't feel comfortable in the wave one world with the kind of strategy that was built to achieve double broadsides.
But things shift, it could be possible. Lots of new considerations to come! We can rest assured that the introduction of wave two will be exciting.

Even 2 Victories side by side will be able to eat the full fury of a Mon Cal as soon as they're in range. Well, not side by side touching base, but they only need to be more than distance 3 from one another to eat the full platter.
And if they bunch up, that's that much less area denial for your other ships to come ![]()
Also, that's going to be a wonderful defense against the stray Gladiator tryingto flank you. Poor thing. :/

How large are your testicles? Haha
No, I haven't done it... Successfully at least. Maybe if you run engine techs and go full speed ahead and spam engineering on the victim, er, I mean brave ship!!!

I have not had it happen yet. I mean you can charge JJ Juggernaut's Nebulon-B's and maybe get in the middle. . . If the front arc was narrower I would approve of this.
I would love to see a ship where the side arcs don't go towards the corners like the Assault Frigate, Nebulon-B, MC80 and MC30. I want to go further upwards that front arc. . .
