Spoilers: Episode 7 potential pilots and crew

By That Blasted Samophlange, in X-Wing

Below are some character descriptions from The Force Awakens, many of which would make great scum and resistance pilots/crew

Guavian Death Gang Enforcers

The security soldiers of the Guavian Death Gang wear high impact armor that makes them stand out among other deadly criminals.

B-U4D Buford

Tough and hard-working, B-U4D (Buford) is part of the ground crew that keeps the Resistance starfighters fueled and combat-ready.

Goss Toowers

Goss Toowers is part of the tireless technical crew that provides mechanical support to the Resistance’s fleet of starfighters.

Ello Asty

Ello Asty is a skilled if occasionally reckless X-wing starfighter pilot for the Resistance.

Sarco Plank

A scavenger and trader who scours frontier worlds for riches, Sarco Plank must wear a specialized mask that keeps his native atmosphere circulating through his alien lungs.

ME-8D9

Known as Emmie by the unallied scoundrels on Takodana, ME-8D6 is a protocol droid that is often called upon to translate less-than-legal deals.

Tasu Leech

Tasu Leech leads the notorious Kanjiklub gang, an intergalactic criminal organization.

PZ-4CO

PZ-4CO is a constant fixture in Resistance base control rooms, offering tactical data and communications support during important operations.

Cool. Source?

Poe being the only named pilot in the new core set seems to be a pretty clear indication that we're not going to be getting our hands on Force Awakens-specific crew cards and pilots until after the movie's release.

Guavian Death Gang Enforcers

Finally, something to fight the Mango Cannons!

Well if there are other characters who've already been named, we might get them. How cool would Phasma in a Tie be?

Keep in mind, FFG would've been given bare bones information LONG, LONG time before these minor background characters were named.

Phasma and Kylo seem likely. But we might not see them in the F/O pack.

The source for this is the Databank on StarWars.com - the official star wars site.

One of the main characters of the new book Aftermath is Norra Wexley. She was Gold Nine and one of the pilots who flew into the deathstar in rotj. I'm not sure what she flew though, maybe the lone y-wing (since Gold is typically y-wings)

-much later edit-

16 chapters in and it's confirmed. She flew the y-wing with her astromech, r5-g4.

Not necessarily. The manufacture of the core set could have meant that the powers that be didn't have the finalized info. Expansions could have it. That being said, I doubt that there will be any named pilots on the side of the First Order, barring Kylo Ren in the shuttle, and that is pure conjecture.

If a t-70 expansion comes, with the black/orange paint scheme i suspect well get a pilot: Black Squadron Ace and Ello Asty card. As well as blue and red squad generics.

As to named pilots and spoilers, any ability a pilot has in the x-wing game has zero plot reveal. Without foreknowledge of Biggs' fate, all we could assume from his ability is he has a bodyguard type wingman disposition. The abilities while often thematic are not spoilers. They have very little bearig on what a character does in the films. If the names of characters on tous won't be major spoilers, i doubt the x-wing miniatures cards would be.

Phasma and Kylo could appear in the "Special Forces TIE Fighter" which is slightly different. Which would have a turret... or at least a rear arc.

Wasn't the y-wing pilot flying into the death star in RotJ originally Horton Salm in the EU? I guess he's out.

Not sure. I'm not too versed on EU during that time frame.

Rewatching rotj, these ships went into the Death Star:

X-wing (wedge)

A-wing (male actor)

Falcon (Lando, gold leader)

A-wing (no clip of pilot)

Y-wing (no clip of pilot)

X-wing (male, dies)

So there's 2 pilots who's genders are unaccounted for, the A-wing and Y-wing. I'm still reading Aftermath, so it might be further specified later..... unless I missed a small reference detail which I might have.

And just in case anyone didn't know (I didn't until yesterday), that is a shot of the back of the special forces tie. The front looks like a normal tie.

The large black series toy has a small turret underneath it.

Another character:

Jas Emari - female bounty hunter

Poor Horton. Retconned into oblivion.

From http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Horton_Salm

"Eventually, the strike team—led by General Han Solo—managed to destroy the shield generator. With the shield around the Death Star lowered, General Calrissian ordered all available fighters to follow him. Salm was the only member of Gray Squadron to respond, joining Red Leader Wedge Antilles, Tycho Celchu, Keir Santage, and Jake Farrell from Green Squadron among others. Skimming the surface of the battlestation, Salm dodged turbolaser fire, entering an access shaft to the Death Star's reactor core behind Celchu's A-wing, and ahead of Santage's X-wing. Several TIE interceptors followed them into the shaft, scoring direct hits on Santage's fighter and destroying it. General Calrissian ordered several of the fighters in the shaft to double back and head for the surface, hoping that they would draw several of the pursuing fighters with them. Salm followed orders, leaving Antilles and Calrissian to complete the attack run on the reactor core. Successfully exiting the Death Star, Salm survived the destruction of the battlestation and the subsequent four-hour fleet battle."
