Scum Aces - what do you think should be in it?

By malladin.ben, in X-Wing

I'd like a Scum YT with a different paintjob myself.

Just make it *different* to the Rebel version.

For example; Scum YT has a turret weapon with 3 red dice to the front and in all 3 other arcs.

Add a few neat scummy titles with different abilities and some pilots and I'd buy me a 2nd YT.

[edit] and yes; M3A needs a lot of love.

I'm not saying it would be BETTER to have scum versions of other factions ships, only that it would make sense in the Star Wars setting. And let's be clear about this Scum wouldn't be stealing YTs from the rebellion, it was the other way round! The Rebel faction just happened to get made first due to their importance to the plot, YT 1300s and YT 2400s are not traditional rebel ships.

Eh, just give Scum the YT-2000 and call it a day. Scum gets the archetype, but we don't end up with yet another Scum ship that's just a Rebel repaint.

Thing is Frostweasel, I see no compelling reason why scum, or Imps for that matter, should have an analogue of the Rebel Fat Pancake builds.

I'm perfectly fine with certain factions having build archetypes that are exclusively their "thing"

Because lore.

Both of those other factions have access to ships with similar capabilities as a YT-1300 or 2400. And there's no reason those ships shouldn't be in the game just to try and maintain some completely artificial notion of faction-specific gameplay archetypes.

I don't think we will see a Corellian freighter for the scum, the upcoming punisher One will have that role. The Jumpmaste 5000 was also produced by Corellian engineering corporation but looking even weirder than their most well known product.

Lore does not dictate that factions should share archetypes either - and it's a game - based on a fictional universe - by definition all notions are artificial

I guess we're approaching this from different ends of the spectrum, you seem to be coming at it from a gameplay perspective which I understand, however I don't think you would see the same Fat Turret builds work with scum. Scum have no access to defensive options like R2, 3PO, Chewie negating crits etc.

My desire for YTs for scum is purely thematic, the YT 2400 is known for its popularity among smugglers and mercenaries who belong squarely in the Scum faction.

No the lore does not dictate that factions should share archetypes, but by the lore of these ships in terms of sheer number there would have been more YT light freighters flown by pirates, smugglers and mercenaries than by the rebels. Wether this should be reflected on the tabletop or not is FFG and Disney/Lucasfilm's call, my vote is yes it should.

Yes, but there's a difference between artificial notions made by, you know, the people that actually MAKE the fictional universe.

And the artificial notions made up by random message board users like, "PWT's should just be a Rebel thing. I feel like they're a Rebel thing." and "Man, shield recovery really should just be a thing for Rebels. That's, like, a Rebel-only mechanic."

One holds a lot more weight than the other.

M3A and Viper. No options here.
Let's just hope they won't publish it in some huge ship pack. Not that I'm going to skip it, but I feel more comfortable when dogfight stuff is sold separetely

Reprint the Heavy Scyk title with a cost of 0 points. Kind of a bummer to existing M3-A owners, but they could always pull a Raider and give you four copies.

It's a boring change, but it would fix a problem that should've never existed had they actually play-tested the bloody thing. That cannon/ordnance slot was greatly overvalued.

Doubt we see YV's. Hasn't everyone been talking about the meta moving away from fat pancakes? What would be the point of just duplicating them with a few new tricks elsewhere?

Which is why this is coming out in wave 8. :P

My first concern for the oft-requested StarViper is cost. As a $20 ship, are you willing to spend $35 for a Scyk/StarViperaces pack? Seems off to me.

I'd rather see a Kihraxz and Scyk since those should be Scum workhorses while StarVipers should be rare. But mostly, I'd like to see a Scyk in a Star Jewel expansion and a StarViper in a Black Sun epic ship.

EDIT: So, I realized later how silly it sounds that I wouldn't spend $35 for a Scyk fix but I would spend $100. I think that bears explanation. For the previous aces, you are incentivized to buy multiples. However, I really want epic ships for Scum. I'd rather spend $200 that get me 2 epic ships and all the ship fixes I can use for StarVipers and Scyks rather than $200 for the epic ships and another $60-$90 for the fixes for these ships.
