How many ships should we get!??! Yay!!!

By Blail Blerg, in Star Wars: Armada

1 ISD, 3 Raiders and 2 MC30

That flying s** toy... I'm not sure yet

While my ardor for the MC80 has cooled somewhat having seen the spoiled pics from French Bothan spies, I will be getting it eventually still, but maybe not right away.

As for its looks, I'm not sure I understand the open hostility towards it, I mean it's not that gawd awful super fugly Space Guppy after all, I mean there are actually people (with obvious vision problems) that actually like that monstrosity, and so in comparison the MC80 is obviously an eleven out of ten.

I like the Assault Frigate mk2 because it reminds me of the Valor-class cruisers of the old Republic.

So, to reply to the topic honestly, I will probably buy one ship of each. I like having variety in my fleets on the tabletop with a combined arms approach rather than having too many similar ships (except squadrons).

For sure ISD and Mon Cal and Rogues and Villains to begin with. Then the Raider and MC30c, but I need to see the upgrades cards to get more hyped :)

Gods, I am so excited for 400 points and so many more options. I can't decide how many ships I should get!

Is 1 ISD enough????

What about 2? I can easily see a list of IIVG at 400. (Each being 100-120 base then upgrades is running 200-300 within a game so it's more likely to run 1 but if your play style is 2 go for it)

What about IIVV too! Should I get a second Victory?

And raiders. Ugh. How many is a good number. I have no freaking idea. I'm starting with 2. I don't want to run raider spam. Meh. Not that interesting. (I have found 3 cr-90s and 3 Neb Bs have a lot of flex within list building my guess would be the same)

For rebels:

I'm being more barebones on this side cuz I'm low on money.

3 Assault frigates?

2 shrimps?

(Look for good deals on places like rollforcrit, minture market, ebay, Amazon, personal I would tell you to start with the core box pick one side and sell the other if your strapped for cash, also I found I had a ton of extra games I never played so I sold a bunch of stuff to raise money for armada)

Probably gonna hold off on the MC80 cuz of cash.

0-19.99 buy 3

20.00-39.99 buy 2

40-up buy 1

The goal I have is the following for retail prices with armada which has not steered me wrong,

0-19.99 buy 3

20.00-39.99 buy 2

40-up buy 1

You bought 3 dice sets!?!

Jk :)

Lemme ask also, who do you play in western china? Do you guys speak in chinese during the game? Or are you all mostly westerners that are in china?

I live in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, but am British.

I play 40k in Chinese with Chinese people, but Star Wars is off most people's radar here in China. It's not as popular as the newer Marvel movies as the films are too old for people to remember, even the prequels.

I play armada with a couple of foreigners, and play X-wing using their fleets. X-wing is good as it's so small and fast it can be played in the pub (playing boardgames in the pub is a very Chinese thing).

At least 2 MC80s, and at least 2 30s. I also need a second AFmk2.

I think I'll just be getting one ISD - love that thing but I love the Rebel ships so much and play this game so little I think I'll want to use nothing but them for a long time!

Yeah, so far it looks like I'm doing the following;

2 of any large

3 of any medium

4 of any small

3 packs of each type of fighter

1 pack of rogues and villains though this may increase

Seems to give me the balance of ships that I'm looking for overall while also being pleasing to the eye :) Granted this is just the baseline. There will be times when it's more than the slot or less. Like I'm likely to bring myself up to 4 or 5 Vic's so I can run an all cap ship fleet for fun and I might grab more corvettes or raiders to do true swarms but my baseline is the above.

Yeah, while i feel like its cool to be in China, the actual Chinese are kind of slighted out of these games.

How come? The only reason they don't play Armada with me is that they don't know Star Wars well. They are too busy playing 40k, FoW and infinity most of the time. All of these games have fan-made rules translations into Chinese (sometimes in advance of codex release for 40k, haha!)

It's not like they are short of money either. We have 2 genuine warlord titans in a 12 man 40k gaming circle already. Neither of them is mine though, I am merely a peasant in comparison, with my 1990s metal aspect warriors

Personally I'm hoping we get a Wave 2 Wave 3 spoiler before Wave 1 Wave 2 hits (and normally I advocate the opposite). If we knew, for example, that The Liberty was on her way sooner rather than later, then I might hold off on a second Home One. I can't see myself flying more than 2 large ships in a single armada - I like using lots of fighters, and I'd like to keep space for some smaller ships too.

Edit: corrected wave numbers
