Actually got to play with the new core set

By Forgottenlore, in X-Wing

So, tonight at my local store I managed to play a few games using the ships from the new set. I made a 50 point list using Epsilon Leader (stress relief) and Omega Ace (super tokens), both with shield upgrade and the OA with PTL.

Each game my opponents took Blue Ace (funky boost T-70) and something else. One of them put BB-8 on BA, the other ran him naked but had a Warthog Y-wing.

These ships are FUN! The TIE/FOs were super fun to maneuver around, and Epislon Leaders stress removing ability is amazing, even with just 2 ships. I can't imagine him in a swarm. I only managed to get both tokens with the OA a couple times (kept bumping or being pointed in the wrong directed) but when I did it was great, even with just 2 dice.

The naked Blue Ace wasn't particularly noteworthy, though the boosts were occasionally annoying, but with BB-8 he was CRAZY. He honestly seemed more maneuverable than Echo or Psycho Tycho.

Can't wait to try a larger game with a full TIE swarm. Howlrunner and Epsilon Leader in a swarm may genuinely create some question as to which one the enemy should target first.

=( Why is an Xwing more maneuverable than my poor Echo and Tycho. =(

Poor Echo. Never even got a day in the sun.

Also cost less squadron points ;)

uhhh, what.

Where were you when wave 4 first came out? Phantoms single-handedly defined the meta. They brought about fat PWT lists, as they were the only way to counter the Phantoms.

Echo had his/her time to shine.

Phantoms are simply one of the most hard to balance ships in the game due to their glass cannon (4 Attack), high cost, crazy arc dodger (cloak) style. FFG shouldve known that, they had enough experience with the game back then.

They jump easily from beeing overwhelming to underwheling and vice versa with jsut a little changes.

I do agree that its getting tricky when suddenly all small ships have to have arc dodging abilities to be able to survive anything.

Everyone keeps saying this... Phantoms didn't make the PWT, that would of happened any way. HSF is a perfect example of the fact that the only thing that changed was the Xs to Zs and C3P0. I flew echo at many store championships, I did just fine. Everyone that took whisper over echo misjudged how good Echo was. Don't cry for a ship just because you didn't know how to play it in the meta back then, and don't blame it for something that would of happened even without it.

Yeah, I misunderstood the rules back then and hilarious was playing them as they are now, and I totally cleaned up with echo to the point that I don't play my friends with him any more for fear of offending them.
