2xAF+Corvette+....?

By Iskander4000, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Inspired by the gentlemen at IFF, I came up with (ok, nearly copied) this:

AFB+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+Enhanced Armament

AFB+Mon Mothma+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+XI7

Corvette B+Leia+Jaina's Light

This leaves me with 40 points. Any suggestions? 4 Y-wings? Tycho and 2 A-wings? Some other mix of fighters? Another corvette?

I think you're better off with Garm personally. Gains you 5 points and adds a bunch of flexibility to the AFs. You'll get squadron tokens to run your fighters. I would pick Tycho and a couple of A-Wings just because of their speed.

Hmmm, I could do that...Garm, Tycho, and 2 A wings puts me at 293. That leaves me with enough points to upgrade the XI7 to enhanced armament, or just leave it as is for an initiative bid (and XI7 is quite helpful against a VSD). Decisions, decisions...

Try a Neb with Salvation and Intel Officer. Spam concentrate fire commands and 1 Salvo could ruin someones whole day. A possible 8 damage of which a Star Destroyer could redirect only one point. And if he uses that brace Intel officer makes him discard it. And your opponent may be forced to :)

Sry Neb with Salvation, XI7 and Intel Officer....

I had an almost exact version of this with Dodonna; 3*A-wings & Tycho.

Won me everything that day and took dem prizes.

Disclaimer; never went vs multi-Gladiator Spam. Faced Rhymers ball and Rebels Corvette spam.

Both were thoroughly spanked.

2 AF, a CR-90, 3 A-Wings and Garm are what I took second at Nationals with. It's a good base and hard to go wrong. Just use the upgrades that you enjoy the most and practice flying those whales in a conga-line.

Very good suggestions...I could add an intel officer to the XI7 frigate to bring me to 300 points, have him shoot first, and have the EA frigate mop up.

What are people's opinions regarding Tycho? On paper he looks great but if I swapped him for a regular A wing I could try for initiative.

Tycho is well worth it. The flexibility to move him where you need him can be a real lifesaver at times. The Scatter token makes him significantly more survivable than a regular awing. Which helps Counter to kick in more frequently.

Sounds good. I'll keep Tycho and stay at 300. Will have to get working on some practice games to get used to the 2 AFs in formation.

Last question for now: what's a good strategy for that corvette? Keep it out of the fight unless I clearly have gained the advantage and use it to finish off a crippled enemy? Hide it among the asteroids? Use it as bait?

If you have jaine light on the vette you can shield it with the frigs. As it can shoot throu and not loose any dice. But depend on objective picked

Thanks everyone. So now the list looks like this:

AFB+Garm Bel Iblis+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+Enhanced Armament

AFB+Intel Officer+Gunnery Team+Advanced Projectors+XI7

Corvette B+Leia+Jaina's Light

Tycho

2xA-wings

This is 300 points. I could take away the gunnery team on the XI7 frigate and upgrade the Corvette to an A, since I'll be trying to keep it at range and hidden behind the frigates anyways so I might as well get some dice out of it. Maybe...

For what it's worth, I think gunnery teams should ALWAYS be taken on a space whale. You will generally be shimmying past the enemy than driving between star destroyers shooting out of either side! I reckon Intel Officer or XI7 (pick your favourite) with a Corvette A would be nicer, and could leave few points for a bid.

When I have 2 Assault Frigates I will sometimes leave one with out a Gunnery Team, knowing that one of my objectives will be Advanced Gunnery. It tends to work out pretty well for me.

Smitty that's what I was thinking too, and if they don't pick Advanced Gunnery then so be it...I really would rather have the red corvette. I could keep the Gunnery team and get rid of XI7 instead but that combos too well with the Intel officer. I may of course change my mind once I field test this.
