Canon Question

By BroodyGambit, in X-Wing

So now we have new ships for the game that are official "new" canon. Would that mean that since you can have Baron Fel shoot down Poe(for example), that by extension all other pilots and ships in the game are new canon as well?

Sorry, not following the logic here, but admittedly it was upper division logic that kept me from claiming a minor in philosophy...

Meanwhile there is a new thread for every *****

Nope it doesnt

No.

X-Wing Miniatures isn't canon, so nothing that happens or can happen in it is canon.

Yeah, things that are canon can appear in it, but that doesn't make everything that appears in it canon.

I don't think FFG's games affect the canon.

No. Ffg does not affect canon.

Sorry but no. Most of the pilots pre wave 5 were from the EU/Legends/Dream era. All the pilots after that had to be approved by the Mouse. Which the Mouse stated when the EU became "Legends" that they could pick and choose anything from that and use it in the new canon. Although when/if they used something from the "Legends" where ever or however it was canonized would be it's new starting point....no back baggage with it. FFG made it clear there were some pilots they wanted to use that the Mouse wouldn't allow them to. So nothing that was EU in this game is canon just because it's in this game. Until it appears either on a screen (be it movie or TV), in a novel (starting with "A New Dawn"), or in Marvel's new Star Wars comics (that started last January) then it is not canon.

Now the Imperial Raider is a grey area. FFG was allowed by the Mouse to create a new ship. All be it by submitting concepts to the Mouse and getting the Mouse's approval. The Mouse could in current canon introduce the Raider and thus making it canon.

I think constantly referring to Disney as "the Mouse" has jumped to the top of my list of douchiest internet phases.

The Raider is canon, and can be used by any show, book, comic or etc, to the extent that it fits into the story being told. It is as 100% canon as the new X-Wings.

X-wing miniatures takes from the cannon. The only thing that FFG has made that has become cannon is well the Imperial Raider, however that was done in cooperation with Disney owned Lucas Film studios so again the relationship is that Disney/Lucas film makes cannon and FFG takes from that cannon.

Disney/Lucas=>Star Wars=>FFG=>X-wing.

As for X-wing unless you are playing a cinematic scenario the cannon is really void, I mean you have faction mirror matches Pilots like Biggs facing against TIE Phantoms and other stuff. Even if you do play any of the cinematic scenarios it will not follow the cannon as players will be more concern with winning their objectives instead of following a script, so Luke might get killed and Jek might live in any given scenario.

The canon is a matter of ordinance, the cannon is a matter of ordnance.
