New core set , scum-less

By Space Cadet, in X-Wing

Are there any benefits to purchasing the new core set for the Scum & Villiany faction, besides the updated hard cover rule book, asteroids, & tokens?

New damage deck too.

I think the only thing you might end up using as a Scum player is the Wired EPT. It's an awesome EPT but most of the ships that it is really good on are Rebel ships.

I probably wouldn't be in any rush to get it if I only played Scum.

Extra dice, new asteroids new damage deck, and, yeah, that wired EPT.

Now me? I can't quite imagine playing this game and not wanting to use the new X-Wing a few times. But I tend to dabble more than specalize.

I don't know how many players this would encompass but it would be nice if they made a starter for scum only players. At least an option like a most wanted deal with a damage deck and all the trimmings thrown in.

The new damage cards are going to be a necessary soon and EPT will have a place. Besides I could always do with more, I never have enough ships so yup, take my money and the wife will never no, nekminit.

Plus the new damage deck is way better for some of the scum ships like the hawk and the Y-wing. Of course you should probly also pick a k-wing for similar reasons.

New damage deck too.

This will be the reason why all X-wing players will have to get a new core set regardless of faction. (oh and the critical effects seem easier I can't tell which deck has the worst effects.)

As far as goodies for the Scum faction the only thing you can get is a new EPT. A 1 pointer that is not better than VI, thats all folks.

Wow, people still only play one faction? Well at least there are those Rebel Scum in the Core Set.

If you own a Star Viper, then you'll be pleased as punch to have another ship to run Autothrusters on.

A Scum player should already have a few Rebel ships anyway if you wanted to make the most out of the extra dials the Most Wanted box came with.

besides the updated hard cover rule book,

Not sure if this is a mistake or if you got bad information somewhere, but the new rulebook is NOT hardcover.

There is a new rulebook (2 of them, sort of), and it is a bit thicker than the old one, but it is still just a half size, stapled booklet.

I have a fair collection of Imps and Rebs, but haven't bought any ships from that faction since Scum came out. As nice as other upgrades are, I can't justify buying a ship I won't fly anymore. But I like the look of the new asteroids and I'm going to need a new damage deck.

Here's the thing. This game was designed as more of a casual board gamey thing so it made sense to have both factions in one core. But there are so many ships to choose from now that I do sort of wish there were faction-specific starters. But by this point I don't feep like it would be worth producing, and the core really isn't going to set you back too much in the long run even if you never fly those ships.

But yeah, I wish I could get the damage deck in a Scum box. Oh well. Not really a deal-breaker.

Backstabber, Scourge, and Mauler Mithel all have ways to roll 4 attack dice at range one. None of the new Tie/FO pilots can do that without spending 4 points on an elite pilot talent.

im guessing a Scum & Villainy aces expansion is in the pipeline.

Despite this coming off the rails for the upcoming episode 7 movie I think the plan to keep releases the same (new ships with new waves, aces pack for each faction bringing 2 ships that have already been released with alternate paint scheme, 2 epic expansion packs for each faction).

The big questions is what are they going to do with the sub-factions, as of now sub-faction is sort of like well the dragon minion subtype when hearthstone was first released. It did not have any interaction with any other cards. Eventually sub-factions are going to matter but right now not really. Also the question comes up will they bring a sub-faction for Scum? Who knows what is going to happen with all this.

One thing for sure Disney is going to push FFG to release more products based upon Disney published shows and movies of the Star Wars Franchise. So if it is in a Star Wars show/movie made by Disney and FFG is still in a license agreement with Disney, odds are there will be a model for X-wing coming out.

Disney can push as hard as it wants, there is only limited material from the new movie so far:

They are:

-Falcon with square dish

-Special Forces TIE

-First Order Transporter

-Kylo Ren's shuttle

That's one wave at most.

Babs out!

No nothing in the new core really justifies buying it if you only play scum.

I like the word scumless! "My house should be as scumless as possible."

Well none of us (or at least the vast majority of us) hasn't seen the new movie yet. Also waves can be released with only 2 ships, of course though now it will be 3 unless FFG feels the need to leave out a faction from an expansion for reasons of forcing a meta shift. But still there could easily be two waves from just what we have seen in the trailers. Rebels could also bring more ships and who's to say Disney won't make more Star Wars shows. If it makes them money they will make more shows and that means more source material.

Out of the three X-Wing players in our house I'm just a scum, if I want cards that aren't in the scum faction I will buy say a rebels ship keep what I need and give the other rebel combatant the rest and the the same goes for all of us, trading. It's a great deal that works well! Pity there are no epic or scum value in the new core set besides the damage card and extras.

But , I would like to se more balance to the factions in major essential ships

**** that had my hopes up for a nice hard cover

Then try to convince the other two brothers to buy a third Core Set all together: The Rebel keep the X-Wing, The Imperial the Ties and you all the components you need.

Sorry, when I wrote hard cover, I was trying to say hard as in paper and not an digital edition, but a hard cover gold embossed updatable X-Wing rule book would be just awesome!
