Chances of getting the "whole range of fighters" as EP7-9 updates?

By CaineHoA, in X-Wing

Ok so we got T70 and new TIEs.

But who doesnt say they wont do that for all the basic ships?

B-Wing, A-Wing, Interceptor... you name it.

Honestly this would be aweful gaming wise. It would feel to me like getting every ship twice as often as i would want to... even if they have minor modelling adjustments like the T70 it would still feel like the same ships for me...

And like always they would pack one or two new card-upgrades into the packs so you feel urged to stay up to date.

Your thoughts?

The likelihood is essentially 0, I think. The existing fighters were developed as the needs of the IV - VI narrative dictated; designs will be pulled forward and/or new designs will be introduced for the same reason. But the likelihood that the lineup of new fighters will precisely coincide with the lineup of old fighters seems really small, to me.

I'd like to see 2-3 ships per faction and have that be about it. Let's you see the signature ones, but no need to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

Consider that we had in

ANH: Xwings and Y wings, Tie Fighters, Tie Advances (one of them), Falcon

ESB: Tie Bombers, Slave 1

ROTJ: Interceptors, A wings, B wings, Shuttles

A few others perhaps but they were the main ships for each film. Its not a *lot* fighter wise when you thnk about it.

If the new films feature ground plot more than star fights we might not even get that many new ones, espeically as they have the OT ships already existing.

What are you asking?

You want to JJ up the A-wing, B-wing, Interceptor etc....

yeah no thanks

I'd be fine with new ships not more "re-imagined" versions of the OT stuff.

At the very least I think we might see Kylo's weird wing ship, and it is not hard to imagine another Falcon, but it might not end up being different enough to warrant it. We will probably just see more new ships not completely tied back to the old stuff.

Most likely this will be only for ships that appear in Episode 7-9. IF they do bring out A-wings and B-wings that have been modernized for the Resistance then sure enough there will be new models similar to the A-wings but different stats. If there are no A-wings and B-wings in Episode 7 then there will be no new A-wings and B-wings.

You can expect more Episode 7 stuff as well as Rebel stuff and products coming from any other Star Wars show that Disney produces in the near future.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we heard nothing further about episode 7 until after the movie has been out awhile. Wave 8 is already planned, I doubt wave 9 will have time to exploit favorites. Wave 10 is my guess for further episode 7 and I'd love to see another aces pack before then.

T-70 and TIE/FO got models because they're in Ep. 7.

Unless all those other ships make appearances in Ep. 7 I wouldn't expect them to get upgrades.

And the t-70 and tiefo are in ep7 is because they're iconic updates. Sort of a link to the past, like bringing in Hamill, Ford, Fisher, etc one last time before saying goodbye.

So is the b/a/int/etc as iconic? Sure to some extent, but not really in the same league (for a non star wars fan).

Will we get new ships? Easily. If Disney is anything, they are THE masters of merchandising.

Episode VII will have some sort of E-Wing, but it'll be different from what we know. I remember something about it.

I'm actually really hopeful that Rebels (and maybe Marvel?!) will introduce a bunch of new fighters into the canon. The episodes (and issues) come out more rapidly than the movies, and thus can help fill some rosters with cool new toys.

Downside? We'd be more likely to get Scum than Rebels or imps.

I'm hoping that they'll introduce more currently EU-only ships into the current canon.

And never overestimate Hollywood's desire to do anything new when something old dressed up in a slightly different way will do.

This has been tonight's edition of Rodafowa's Petty Cynicism Toward Talented And Successful People Corner.

No new Millenium Falcon. Just release a new sensory array dish (rectanglar one).

Wait... someone aleady did on Shapeways.

I dont think a Falcon rerelease is necessary. Its still the same ship hull wise.

If this core set is successful in drawing new players into the game by capitalising on its connection to a popular new film, then we might see more introductory sets of some kind to coincide with other films. Maybe ep. 8 and 9.

But it is also possible that this set is meant to be a basic introduction to connect to the whole trilogy of new films. Presumably, X-Wings and TIEs will be in all three, so it could very well have a long shelf life. With some luck, Poe Dameron will continue to play a role, too.

A new Falcon seems commercially viable to me.

Why wouldnt the old still available falcon do the job as well? Because it doesnt say EP7 on the packaging?

Disneys are masters of exploiting a franchise. They sure brought back the iconic ships like the X-Wing, Ties and Falcon. But i bet further ships will rather be new creations. They want to sell some entirely new toys to the children after all. And to... well... Us nerds i guess XD

If you look at what has been released for X-Wing so far, the criterium of necessity is not highest on the list of factors that decide whether or not some ship will be published.

There will be a package available with maybe some new Pilots, upgrades etc. But otherwise it willjust contain a square radar dish

The dish is a separately sculpted piece, so I would think the sculpt for the main hull can be reused. With a new paint scheme, the model would be more than okay I guess. Add a bunch of new cards, like maybe a new ship card with some different upgrades, a slightly different dial perhaps, something really unique, like a special kind of attack or another new rule, and you would actually have an interesting package.

You'd be just as likely to get updates for the current ships thanks to Rogue One and the other prequels which are set in the current ship range.

The only thing I could see happening that would really hack ppl off is from the Disney side, again. There's every possibility that at some point they do something to invalidate the EU ships. Even then, Disney likes $$$ best, and if it's making them and FFG fat and happy, they might stay away from that, too.

I don't think it's possible to invalidate the EU/legends ships, except maybe in a 2nd edition. As game expansions, they'll be as valid as ever.

Some might feel more than a bit 'tacked on' as the movies will probably give the impression that there never was nor will be a K-Wing, TIE Punisher, Z-95, etc. But the galaxy is a big place, who knows what's flying around, right?

Maybe, just maybe, there will be a new ship with a name that has already been used in the EU. 'E-Wing' comes to mind. That would create a design problem, but not a dramatic one.
