Are all models to scale?

By alphasquid, in X-Wing

I read in the new core set article that the models included are 1/270th scale. Is this true for every X-Wing miniatures model? Comparing an X-Wing to something like the Rebel Transport, it seems like the transport should be bigger?

EDIT: Nevermind, I did some searching and I see that some of them are a smaller scale cause they would be too big to fit in the game otherwise. Thank you!

All of the small and most of the large ships are modelled to 1/270 scale.

The existing Epic ships (Raider, Transport, Corvette) are all higher scale - the Transdport is about 1/400, the Corvette 1/450.

Yeah, the Huge ships aren't to the same scale as the rest of the ships.

All small base and large base ships are on the same 1/274 scale (though some will endlessly debate the size of the A-wing and Y-wing).

The epic ships however are on bigger scales.

And the HWK.

All the ships in X-Wing are scaled correctly per their canon sizes. Some people however don't agree that the canon is correct when it comes to the size of some ships. And on that note I will be leaving soon for a 5 day weekend, and will hopefully miss the debate about scale.

Huh, could have sworn I read that the big ships are all in 1/350?

There is no standard scale for the large ships. The CR-90 and Raider are a different scale then the GR-75, and the Gozanti will actually be at 1-270 scale.

The A-wing is a funny case. The ships that exist in the movies are scaled to the movie ship models (e.g., the Tie Fighter is basically perfect).

The thing is, the A-wing in RoTJ was built to a slightly different scale than the other ships - and it looks like the FFG A-wing was built to scale with that model. If that's true, then the FFG A-wing may well also be perfect, but to a ship which is the wrong size.

I thought the A-Wing was made bigger because otherwise people would accidently crush it.

There's been a lot of debate over the correct size of the A-Wing. But no matter what the correct size is, the canon size is well established, and that's what they used to scale the one we have.

yeah its technically right it just looks way off...

Likewise Y wings look quite tiny but oddly if you repaint them they look a little chunkier and less flat.

I have the impression the Slave One is too big and the Millennium Falcon is too small in this game.

Bare in mind the slave one cockpit has two levels and can seat three across, it's a really big window.

I thought that about slave 1 as when i was a kid you got used to it being able to fit boba fett in and a carbonite han solo and i assumed the big cockpit was the same but i've seen model kits and its a six man bridge on two levels so it might be about right

Hounds tooth might be too small too as i know its got 'collapsable/folding wings' but unless the whole thing is telescopic there is no way a z95 is fitting in the back of that where the 'docking bay' is supposed to be

To be honest i look at it with the rationale that GW used for Battlefleet gothic.

The ship model is what your pilot sees on his scopes and scanners, its not neccesarily the size of the ship. In BFG the actual ship peg represented the rough position of the ship so they could get out of all the stress of putting stuff 'to scale'..

Maybe I got the worg impression because of this:

It looks much smaller than this:

Ahh well toy scale rarely matches the Canon size for obvious reasons.

But yeah six seats and its got a place to sleep in addition to cells for transporting prisoners.

And, FWIW, the new 'Rebels' TV series is using the A-Wing in its "correct" scale.

So, really, the only anomaly is the couple scenes in Return of the Jedi from 'inside the cockpit', where it looks like the pilot's upper body takes up pretty much the whole thing, instead of merely a very small part of it. But, of course, we never saw those pilots OUTSIDE of the cockpit, so...let's just assume they were from a species that grew very large. Bigger than Wookie-sized. Problem solved!

I'd love that, since 1/350 is a popular warship model scale.
