Okay, NOW we can talk about FFG's plans for E7!

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm going with we will see new material released but it'll be in support of marketing the new content. So TFA, ep 8, anything from the past will likely center on the anthology movies and whatever they do with Netflix shows. I don't see Disney green lighting material that doesn't support marketing the new content. Of course who knows where the content will go in the timeline.

I think you're correct, though I wish it wasn't so. The EU interests me personally far more than the new stuff.

We have seen various EU things introduced to the RPG however, and I hope we continue to see the likes of Chiss in the game.

Disney said they'll farm the EU for ideas but not to expect plots to be covered. FFG has certainly released races and such from the EU post canon purge so I'm sure that will continue but as for a whole sourcebook, I would never say never, but I wouldn't hold my breath or put money down either.

Well, we have already seen them mine the EU for story info in Rebels, such as the Hammerhead cruisers and Malachor in Rebels. Kylo Ren's crossguard saber likely had some basis upon the EU version, just with an extra energy blade on the pommel The RX-series pilot droids from the old Disney StarTours ride has been made canon courtesy of Rebels.

And from the look of the trailer, Rogue One is giving us Imperial Grand Admirals, or at least having what one presumes is a very high-ranking Imperial officer decked out in an all-white uniform that was the hallmark of a Grand Admiral. And I'm sure there are elements in the various canon novels that have their roots in the EU.

So like you said, small bits here and there making their way in, as opposed to large chunks.

Lets see here now:

Note: Unlike our other Beginner Games, The Force Awakens Beginner Game will not be followed by a new Star Wars RPG game line. Instead, it draws upon the core mechanics shared by Star Wars®: Age of Rebellion™, Star Wars®: Edge of the Empire™, and Star Wars®: Force and Destiny™. Players interested in continuing their Star Wars adventures can do so through any of these fully compatible systems.

Oh my. All bold. Seems like they mean it...

and what was said before?

As a business plan a new core still seems like the only smart announcement to make.

Alright, and my post here...

Huh...

As I've mentioned in other places (such as the sub-forum for the TFA Beginner Box), the fact we got a straight-to-the-point answer of "No" from one of the lead designers (Sam Stewart in this case) via Twitter on a potential future product (when prior answers have been "we can't discuss that at this time") is pretty telling.

For all we know, that may very well change in a few years' time, but it seems that FFG is quite happy with their "three core rulebooks" approach.

And from a business perspective at this point in the systems life cycle it makes sense. Assuming this Beginner set is like the others, there's probably ample material in the back to fill out what (actually precious little) new material is presented in TFA. Pair that up with the probability the beginner set will have characters from all three cores and you basically end up with a self contained game that pushes you to buy all three cores.

OK sorry, but this have been bugging me. Am I seriously the only one who noticed that that dudes uniform is not all white?

Plus that **** map. It could be an empty box with nothing but the galaxy map - no characters, no dice, no stripped rule book, no game - and I'd still pay for the fool thing.

(and yes, it is indeed cream. That guy aint no Grand Admiral.)

Nope. To me I instantly thought "Imperial Security Bureau", not Grand Admiral Thrawn. Those pants are darker then the jacket. Thrawn of Legends was ALL white.

We see a similar uniform on the Death Star I (with Colonel rank) in movie canon right after the end of Rogue One. If that is a "Grand Admiral" uniform, then why do we see the same uniform in movie canon wearing lesser rank three times (there were also a couple dudes in the same uniform walking down a hallway on the DS)?

I'm hoping we are seeing the "Grand Commander" or some-such of the ISB. It would make sense he would at least be behind the attempt (not in the trenches, directing) to thwart the Rebel Alliance from destroying the Empire's new secret, baddest weapon. He isn't sitting in the conference room with Thrawn and Vader in Episode IV because he failed. The Rebels got the plans. The Emperor just executed him perhaps yesterday. So, an ISB Colonel was invited to that conference and is intelligently being very, very quiet.

I believe his title is director.

I imagine the main difference is that the general law enforcers have changed; instead of stormtroopers being the elite response that there would be a more planetary local force and that the crimes would be commited largely against the new order, though I can only imagine that some planets might cling onto their pro empire heritage. Then once war is declared basically a lot of planets would start changing hands, either formal surrenders or hostile takeovers in the same vain as the clone wars. Otherwise tech rarely changes in the star wars universe, excluding ships.

I'd be more annoyed that Thrawn isn't a Chiss, never mind the uniform...

I'm hoping ISB, it'd be nice to see a reference in a SW movie to the other organisations that make up the Empire, rather than just the military (certainly will help with references for players who's knowledge is restricted to the movies).
