My Galactic Open List!

By Shirako, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all, last night a friendly fellow by the name of Matt-Shadowlord encouraged me to register for the Galactic Open on Team Covenant! Wanted to fly something off the beaten path but also wanted to bring along the new toys from wave 7 so here we are.

I'm going to be doing a write up about my list building, thoughts/concerns, and matches here and for my new blog on TC so make sure to search me out there (same name)

The List:

Hobbie Klivian: R2-D6, Opportunist

Jan Ors: TLT, Nien Numb

Miranda Doni: TLT, Recon Specialist

Development:

I like to set goals and challenges for myself every time I play X-Wing competitively. I wouldn't consider myself a "meta-hater" per-say, but I prefer to do things outside the box. I took Boba and IG88B to regionals - which was fairly non-standard until SableGryphon posted his fantastic write up about the combination and his experiences. I had been playing a lot of Imperials in my FLGS league before leaving for college, so I decided to play Rebels this tournament.

Goals:

1. Use TLTs on something not a Y-Wing with R2

2. Use a named Rebel HWK-290

3. Use an X-Wing

Opening up the list is Hobbie Klivian. The only way I have seen Hobbie used in the past is with R3-A2 as a stresser and then dumping his own stress by spending a TL. I decided to take a different approach to this by using the R2-D6 Astromech to equip the Opportunist Elite Pilot Talent. As Hobbie is the lowest skill in the list both TLTs will be able to shoot before him - hopefully stripping tokens for him to trigger opportunist. Opportunist combined with Jan's ability can lead to a whopping 5 dice shot out of a mere X-Wing. His pilot ability also allows him to dump his stress gained from opportunist when he shoots - freeing up his dial for the following turns.

Next is Jan Ors. I think her ability can add some serious punch to any list. She is given the TLT for 1-2 consistent damage every turn. Nien Numb helps her out when she stresses herself to give Hobbie an extra shot. Not much else to say here. I would have liked to have found the points for the Moldy Crow title however I reasoned that Recon Specialist on a turret focused Miranda was a better use of the 3 points. Not much else to say about her.

Lastly is Miranda Doni. I have her built as a gunship instead of a bomber. She is a fantastic self-sufficient vessel that can regen shields and still provide consistent damage every turn. Combined with Jan's TLT it should be enough red dice to punch through the arc dodgers that Hobbie will be weak against as he is only skill 5. Additionally her and Jan can strip tokens of larger vessels allowing for Hobbie to hit massive follow-up shots.

Synergy and Combat:

This ships in this list are designed to account for each other's weaknesses. The TLTs are there to deal with arc dodgers and easier to kill ships like Headhunters. Hobbie is in the list as a powerhouse throwing huge amounts of red dice to take down TLT toting Ys and bigger vessels quickly. If my opponent decided to focus down Hobbie and Jan first then they are leaving up a tanky ship that can regen its shields until the late game. If my opponent decides to attempt to burn down Miranda they are ignoring another TLT and a ship easily capable of throwing 5 to 6 dice.

That's all I've got time for now. Going to try to get in a practice math tonight. Will come back with how it goes! As always C/C is welcome and appreciated.

Hopefully you've given some thought about how these ships are going to fly together. I have found that twin laser turret ships like to fly away from their target which makes life difficult for Hobbie (since he wants to fly towards them). The obvious problem there is giving your opponent a ship that can be easily isolated and destroyed, or conversely, not being able to have all of your ships shooting at the same target.

Good luck in any case, I'll be flying the Galactic Open as well!
