My only complaint about the new set

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

Another complaint is that the unique pilots' names are pretty lame/unimaginative (except for Poe). Maybe they were really restricted by Disney.

Yea, I thought the same thing.. Either JJ and crew never bothered to make up names for the new background pilots in the story, or Disney wouldn't let FFG spoil anything that deep this far out. Thus far even of the stuff spoiled, its only primary characters on both sides of the conflict. Surely there's gotta be the TFA lore equivalents of "Howlrunner", "Ten Numb", or any other number of alien, robot, or other pilots they could have used. Rookie, ace, vet, etc.. are a little too generic even for a core set.

or Disney wouldn't let FFG spoil anything that deep this far out.

Well....

Rumour has it the severed hand of Luke plays a role.

Poe is a PS8 X-Wing Pilot whose native ability allows him to alter dice. A little more aggressively, a little more action intensive than a certain other PS8 X-Wing Pilot whose native ability allows him to alter dice.

Added spoilertags, just to make sure people don't read stuff (speculative, not factual) they don't want to.

My only complaint is that the new x-wing is bigger than the others and won't fit in my battlefoam.

One Weapons Guidance, one Wired, no generic Astros are my complaints. Probably gonna grab my third TFA core in the next day or so, so the issue will be moot.

Why on earth would you buy 3 core sets? Wouldn't it be wiser to buy the expansions when they come out instead?

I did the same thing; 3 core sets. The cost of buying 3 core is the same as buying 3-4 of each individual ship, but i came out ahead thanks to that target force 25 discount.

I orderd 2 sets. My only complaint so far is the names of the "named" pilots. They indeed might have been really restricted... who knows, still they are really lame. Could they not have made up new names for them like Echo and Whisper?

Considering the name of Poe's squadron, I don't think LFL gave FFG that much information. Remember, they did this set almost a year ago.

They didn't actually cover everything. The newest bombs are not in there, for example.

They stopped at wave 6 obviously

From the unboxings I've seen online, the complaint I have is there isn't a way to injure/damage a crew member/astromechs with a critical hit card. If you have someone "tagging along", there should be some risk of the crew in a large ship, or an astromech in a fighter getting injured or damaged. Look what happened to R2, for example. In Fantasy Flight's eyes, the pilots take all the damage, but the crew seems to be invincible.

I hope that's just a rumor. If it really is a plot point it's too cheesy for my taste. And too close to the reveal in the Zahn trilogy.

It only makes sense though that the new rules would really only cover what is in the new core set. They aren't going to buff everything out in the new booklet and overwhelm new players is my thinking there

That's the main reason. Remember that some people who buy the Core 2 set might just stop at that. At which point it acts as a stand-alone board game with no reason to go into rules that can't be utilized by the starter set.
