New Core Set Upgrades - Any reason for 2?

By Ken at Sunrise, in X-Wing

Can someone list the Upgrades that come in the new core set?

Is there any reason to get two Core Sets? Either way I'll wait for the separates ships packages before I buy a second. But often those packages include different upgrades and we'll need multiples of those.

So I'm curious about what the new core upgrades are and the number of them.

Thank you,

Same reason as there always was: cheap way to get more ships. Non-unique upgrades'll likely be repeated in blisters.

Thanks but still curious as to the list of upgrades though.

Proton Torpedo, Wired (1 point EPT. You my reroll focus results if you are stressed), BB-8 (Unique Astromech, 2 points. You may execute a free barrel roll action when you reveal a green manuver), R5-X3 (1 point unique Astromech. Discard before revealing your dial to ignore obstacles for the rest of the rou d), and Guidance Computer (2 point "Tech" upgrade. May spend a focus token to convert one blank to a hit).

Wired and Guidance Computer will almost certainly be in the T-70 and/or Tie/FO expansions muchas marksmanship nd determination were in the X-wing and tie fighter expansions. The astromechs are unique, and Proton torpedo is literally the most common upgrade in the game (And might well be in the T-70 expansion).

So it's highly unlikely any non-unique content will be exclusive to the new core set.

Right. Won't know if you want multiple sets until you see if those upgrades all end up being in the xpacs or not.

Awesome! Just those two, Wired and Guidance Computer, then no reason to need to get two sets. Though... there is the damage deck. We usually play that each side has their own deck. I provide the stuff usually and I own multiple old core sets.

I'd just share the deck. Always saw the tournament rule of separate damage decks as the "don't get your icky hands on my clean things" effect.

then just continue using the old decks... the rules are if both side have the new deck then use new decks, if you are supplying 'old' decks to both sides then none issue....

Thought about that but there appears to be a big enough difference to use the same one for both sides. I'll probably ending up getting two new cores in addition to the ones I already own :( I like Epic and having a damage deck for both sides is preferred and having them be the same is best.

Anyone have and extra brand new damage deck?

I want 2 just because, 2 is more than 1 and I'm not all that sensible.

That is not the reason for the tournament rule. There are three reasons for players bringing their own damage decks to a tournament:

1) You don't have to rely on someone else to bring components you need to play.

2) If a lot of damage is done during the game, there's a higher chance of the damage deck running out if there's just one deck between two players.

3) The statistical ratios for pulling certain critical hit cards (particularly direct hits!) is changed when both players share the same deck. Having both players share the same deck slightly increases the possibility for the players to try to "game" the damage deck and avoid critical hits they don't want while putting the worst critical hits on the opponent.

Yeah, two cores is a really cheap way to get four new TIEs and two new X-Wings, plus multiples of the non-unique upgrades. And it solves the different damage deck problem too, as you can just let your opponent use the extra one.

Wired and Guidance Computer are amazing! I'm hoping we see these in the expansion packs for the new X-wing and TIE as well. I need more than just one of each of these!!

Thank goodness FFG did us a solid by including another proton torpedo card in a set. You can never have too many of those.

It's a fairly safe assumption that the T-70 and Tie/FO will be in expansion packs at some point soon. So the only reason I could see to get more then 1 is if those two upgrades aren't in them.

Myself I don't think I'd run a 4 T-70 list or more then 3-4 TIE/FO's. So I can't see as much value in a second core as I did back when I first started.

This and an extra damage deck.

Wasn't there 3 missing product codes(36, 37, & 38)? The new core is 36 so we can assume that 37 & 38 are the T-70 & the TIE/fo expansion pack singles.

Okay so this is a serious question and yes it is premature.

Based on what we know about the existing set. Where, once the game is out for a few weeks, do you think I might find an extra Damage Deck that is cheap enough not to warrant just buying the extra copy in the first place?

Is that something FFG have said somewhere?

I don't think the extra damage deck has much value. If someone doesn't have the new damage deck they can use the old one right now. That may or may not be completely fair, but I don't think it's $40 worth of unfair or even $25... Not unless you want 3-4 of the T-70's.
