wish they had added scenarios like armada

By bageldrone, in X-Wing

I kinda wish they had added the scenario system from armada e.g. you pick 3 objective cards as part of your squad building then the player who doesnt get initiative gets to choose from the opponents hand

i think it would have added a great dynamic to the meta as you could build a scenario deck to counter different types of squads

what are your guys thoughts?

I agree. I do find always playing tournaments as a dogfight a bit dull.

I think there was a thread about this a while back. Consensus seemed to be: Yes that would be awesome, or: You're crazy X-Wing is perfect you already have objectives; kill the other ships.

I would love a competitive mode beyond the deathmatch.

I know Alex Davy said it's something he'd like to have in the game.

Whether or not the game is too far along for something like that to be easily implemented or not is a different story. I guess we'll see.

Real missed opportunity not to have put something a bit deeper than 'kill everything while dodging six rocks' into the key format.

I'd have loved to have seen some objective play format, campaign rules perhaps... its not like enough people have not written really good ones , put em on here and would have probably gladly given FFG any or all parts of em for free.

Objectives would have been great. But we can still hope.

Please!!!!

Oh and while your at it FFG I do have a Christmas list and I've been really good. Well I've been trying to be really good.

  • Mission Booklet with 50+ scenarios.
  • Suggested pre-built squads for the above missions - suggested not required.
  • If these missions are link to they can be played solo or as a campaign. If that's too hard then 1/2 into 4 mission campaigns and 1/2 as standalone.
  • Objectives - perhaps like Armada but something to encourage us to add different types of ships to games.
  • Sell the new Damage Deck separate - please

Thanks Santa FFG

Davy had said that the idea was that people would eventually get bored of the 100 pt deathmatch and they'd figure something out but no one really got bored and it was way more popular than they thought.

Some of us got bored :)

Would be nice. They have mission scenarios as well as mission control but those are rather restrictive.

Still with armada with the round limits and scenarios it almost seems that they had to put in other objectives because tabling your opponent was just too impractical. With X-wing since the rounds pass the swiss cut tend to not be timed it does seem like there is enough balance and pacing to keep tabling the opponent as the sole objective.

But yeah I would say it seems like the episode 7 core set, aside from the new damage deck, was more of a product push than a natural progression of the living table top game.
