New & Old Damage Deck Legality

By Smutpedler, in X-Wing

Not everyone's interested in the new ships, and not everyone has as big budgets to spend on this game. Having to chose between say a ship you'd like and a coreset you're not interested in just for the coreset is not a fun decision to make. I wish people on these forums weren't so dismissive of the fact that not everyone has hundreds of dollars to spend on this game.

And x-wing tends to be more expensive out of the US too, for the 14,95 dollar packs I paid 19 something euros this week, that's more than 20 dollars.

If it's a problem don't buy it. Borrow one when you go to a tournament that requires you to use it. It's probably extremely unlikely that you have a tournament coming up any time soon where the TO is going to be adamant that you use it.

These complaints are nearly basis and more than likely coming from people that complain about everything regardless of reality.

There are easy solutions to most of these "problems" real or imagined.

Sorry if people think I'm being a jerk about it but all I see are complaints after complaints that probably hold no water when looked at from a realistic standpoint.

See my above post. This community is friendly by and large. I lend stuff out constantly to new players or if someone forget something. That's reality, not these make believe scenarios where you have a major tournament next week with a tyrannical TO and nobody that can lend you something. Heck if that's the kind of environment your in why are you paying $10-$15 to enter THAT tournament anyway?

Look you might have a reasonable point had this new set come out between waves but it didn't, wave VII just came out as did the Raider and x-mass is well on it's way also. So bad timing for that argument

And when (aside from Worlds where it probably won't be an issue seeing as its at FFG and something can get worked out) is the next premier event?

Oh, it's many months away?

Excellent. Point still valid. Can we stop bitching about imagined problems now?

Incidentally, to all of the many people over the last year who have been endlessly saying "they need to update the damage deck", "FFG should do a new damage deck", "the damage deck is out of date, we need a new one"

THIS is why you were told it was a bad idea.

Just an FYI, reps from FFG apparently stated at the Nova Open this weekend that the new damage deck will be mandatory for tournament play starting Jan. 2016. I think that is totally fair and gives people plenty of time to adopt the new starter. Why anyone would be upset at this or the new core given a MULTITUDE of reasons why it makes sense from FFG/Disneys perspective continues to confound and baffle me. Enjoy the game whether you play it competitively or casually but don't forget that FFG is a business...... And there's nothing wrong with that fact.

Well, to be fair I think you have the mouse to blame for that. The core set at least is basically considered movie merchandise to them so it had to be in the push with all the other stuff. Ultimately the ships in the set are good, and the deck is a huge improvement over the other to me. Even the fact that you can combine the rocks for events is nice as you can bring all huge or all tiny. So yeah, might not be all that cheap but otherwise I'm loving it.

I do really agree the timing of everything sort of sucks though. I'm still trying TIE Advanced combo's, only just got into a little of Wave 7 and suddenly the T-70 shows up... It'll settle down but it's a slight overload. Not to mention not cheap but at least I've yet to set a reason to buy extra wave 7 (unless maybe for bomb tokens?)

dont harass people just because you think they should or do own the new damage deck.

People should complain more about the fact the new core set only comes with one tie fighter title card.

????? It doesn't come with any tie fighter title cards. So far in the game there are no tie fighter title cards.

Huh!? Either im misunderstanding your point or Howlrunner, Backstabber or Winged Gundark would like a word with you...

Titles are a specific type of upgrade card, like systems or crew (the symbol for a title upgrade is the little hologram of an x-wing). Millenium Falcon, Slave one and tie advanced x1 are all titles.

I have no idea what ramy is talking about. The new core set comes with 3 unique tie fighter pilots, though they all have generic names (omega ace, epsilon leader) but it doesn't have any titles at all. In fact, the tie fighter doesn't have a title in any expansion to date.

"The Damage deck included in this box replaces the Damage deck included in the original X-Wing core set. If players have both, they should use the new deck included in this box."

In that case they better start selling the new damage deck separately.

I may be proven wrong but I don't believe that will ever happen.

I also think people are making a much bigger deal out of this than it really is. It's probably a byproduct of people feeling "forced" to purchase a new Core set to get the new damage deck in order to play competitively (at least at bigger events) in the future. My question is: Why wouldn't someone want to buy at least one new Core set anyway?

I'm a patient man and I'm not really too worried about it, but, it's not so much about being "forced" into buying one but my wife and I play and it would mean buying two MORE sets we don't really want just to play competitively. I know enough about board game printing to know that most of the components in the box are manufactured by different companies. (ie, carboard printed at company A, dice made at company B ...) So I wouldn't see it as too much trouble to just get company C who prints the cards to ship the new damage decks for individual sale like they did with the dice.

At least, that's the reasonable thing to do if it becomes a mandatory rule at some future point.

I understand your position, but the stats for the ships have changed so why wouldn't you want to upgrade your collection? For instance, the First Order TIE gets a shield and the T-70 was boosted a shield and the boost action :D

I'm nitpicking here, but the stats have not changed. There are two completely new ships in the new core and their stats (thank goodness) are different from the stats on the ships from the first core. This isn't an upgrade, it's an expansion.

And yes we here in New Zealand do have a problem with D. Extra anal TO. He only cares for his regional area and so messes with our more populated regional by not advertising, interrupting play so he can count damage decks, threatening to disqualify a player for.removing his ship from it's base due to a close quarter fur-ball , running two days of tourney time over just one day to up.the chance of.people having to leave early so he can keep the alt art cards...

If its the one I am thinking of, it wasn't really a regional though, it was the whole South Island. For $25+ I expected better and I felt sorry for the sponsers. I've found the local run ones to be better run and offered better prizes and they were 1/5th the cost.

From what I understand our next tournament is in October, the new core will be released a few days before it and won't be legal, but all events after that one will have to have the new damage deck. We will also likely be getting price rises on everything in the future due to the exchange rates bombing. 40k was a game that basically got costed out, I'd hate for X-wing to go the same way.
